328: Amos 9:11-12

365 Prophecies: Prophecy 328

The Millennial kingdom of the Messiah predicted.

Old Testament Prediction:

Amos 9:11-12 “On that day I will raise up The tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, And repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins, And rebuild it as in the days of old; That they may possess the remnant of Edom, And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,” Says the LORD who does this thing.

New Testament Fulfillment:

John 18:37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

Application:

Isaiah uses the term, “In that day,” 44 times, in referring to the Millennium when the Messiah will reign over His kingdom. Many of the final Old Testament prophecies that are fulfilled by Jesus as the Messiah, describe the Millennial reign of the Messiah.

Amos uses a similar term, “On that day.” Both prophets are referring to the same event—the coming thousand year kingdom of the Messiah.

When Pilate requests that Jesus identify Himself, the Lord confirms that He indeed came into the world as a King, to bear witness of the truth (John 18:37 above). What is often misunderstood regarding Jesus arrival as a King, is the timing of His rulership. Although the leaders of Israel would have Pilate believe that Jesus came to subvert and overthrow the Roman government, the prophecies of the Messiah were clear that this event would not take place upon His first arrival.

Prophecies such as this prediction from Amos 9:11-12, describe the Messiah returning to earth a second time at the end of the age to establish the promised Kingdom of David.

This 328th prophecy is fulfilled by Jesus in two ways:

First, the announcement by Jesus at the questioning of Pilate, that He is the King that was promised to David, who would reign over a kingdom without end.

Second, by the multiple accounts of the New Testament which describe Jesus as the fulfillment of these prophecies of Isaiah and Amos, He will reign as the Messiah over a kingdom for one thousand years, at the conclusion of the 70th week of Daniel.[1]

The following 18 prophecies describe the coming kingdom of the Messiah that He will establish at the end of the seven-year Tribulation. This Kingdom will be ruled by Jesus from Jerusalem, over every nation and continent on the earth. His power will be absolute, and His rule will be righteous and just for all people.

Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?”

Prophecy 158 Isaiah 2:2-4 The Messiah shall rule the earth from Jerusalem, judging the nations and bringing peace to the whole world.

New Testament Fulfillment:

Matthew 25:31-46 When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.” Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, “Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?” And the King will answer and say to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” Then He will also say to those on the left hand, “Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.” Then they also will answer Him, saying, “Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?” Then He will answer them, saying, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.” And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

Amen.

Romans 14:11 For it is written: “As I live, says the LORD, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.”

Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Romans 11:25-27 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”

Prophecy 320 Micah 4:1-8 In the “latter days,” the Messiah’s kingdom will be established on the earth above all other kingdoms, and all the nations will come to hear Him and walk in His ways. Every sickness and disease will be healed, and all the outcasts of Israel will be united as one people.

Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Prophecy 324 Haggai 2:6-9 The Messiah, “The Desire of All Nations,” will shake heaven and earth one more time in the last days, and His glory will fill the Millennial Temple.

New Testament Fulfillment:

Hebrews 12:25-29 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.

Prophecy 325 Haggai 2:6-9 The Messiah is called “The Desire of All Nations.”
