300: Ezekiel 34:23-24
The Prophecies of the Messiah: Prophecy 300
The Messiah will fulfill the office of his father David as a teaching Shepherd over one flock.
Old Testament Prediction:
Ezekiel 34:23-24 I will establish one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them—My servant David. He shall feed them and be their shepherd. And I, the LORD, will be their God, and My servant David a prince among them; I, the LORD, have spoken.
New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 5:2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
Matthew 13:54 When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works?
Mark 4:2 Then He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in His teaching:
Mark 10:1 Then He arose from there and came to the region of Judea by the other side of the Jordan. And multitudes gathered to Him again, and as He was accustomed, He taught them again.
John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
John 10:14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.
John 10:16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
As David found his beginning as a shepherd, so also shall his future descendant, the Messiah. He will be a Shepherd who feeds His flock by teaching them the perfect word of the Living God. The Messiah will take all those who will believe in Him and make them “one flock”. He will be a teaching Shepherd who brings the word of God to His people so that He might instruct them on how they should live before Him and worship Him in truth.
The greatest need in Jesus church today is not a bigger sanctuary, or a new coffee shop— it is the teaching of the word of God, from Genesis to Revelation. The full counsel of God’s word which would include an in depth study of the Old Testament prophecies Jesus fulfilled in the New Testament, with personal application.
All of the problems that exist in Jesus church today originate from a lack of knowledge regarding the word of God. Pastors do not know what the word of God says, because they do not often read and study the whole Bible for themselves. Today, many pastors do not believe that the Bible is the word of God. As a result there is a great famine in the lives of those to whom the Lord has called to be His church.
If we examine the primary ministry which Jesus conducted before the people, it was simply teaching people the word of God. Jesus taught by the use of illustrations from common, ordinary, familiar situations of life that people were familiar with. He brought the word of God down to a level where the ordinary could understand, the intellect could ponder, and the willing could receive. Jesus taught by illustrating how a particular Biblical principle was lived out in the lives of those who would practice these truths.
The only way that the church can become all that the Lord has desired, is when we know what He has said. We do not need sermons about current political events, how to prosper and be in health. We need to know the heart of God, and what His desire is for our life. When we bring our hearts and minds into alignment with the will of God, we will be happy and fulfilled individuals. Our families, our work, and our relationships with people will improve and begin to thrive.
I believe that a careful study and meditation on the prophecies of the Old Testament, which Jesus fulfilled in the New Testament, will greatly expand a person’s understanding of God’s plan for their life. In knowing who Jesus is, by the promises that God has made to us, we gain an important perspective on all that the Lord is going to do in the world, now, and in the future.
The word of God is the chief desire of the Messiah. He will continue to teach from Jerusalem, throughout the one thousand year reign of His kingdom. The people of the world will come every year to sit at Jesus feet and listen to Him teach. I for one sincerely hope that I might be permitted to remain near Jesus so that I might hear all the He says.
Zechariah 14:16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts…
Long after the Jesus destroys the present world and creates a new heaven and earth, He will continue to teach us and lead us into greater and greater revelation of who He is. Our hearts and minds will be enlarged and our spirits will excel as true worshippers of the eternal God who has made Himself known to all people.
