365 Prophecies: Prophecy 155
The wisdom that brought the Messiah to earth was established before the earth was created. This wisdom determined that the life of the Son of God would be “poured out” for the sins of the world.
Old Testament Prediction:
Proverbs 8:22-23 The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting…
“I have been established,” from the Hebrew word nis·saḵ·tî, literally: “I was poured out.”
New Testament Fulfillment:
Revelation 13:8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Jesus is often spoken of in the New Testament, as: The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
Revelation 13:8 above, reveals that God had determined before He made the universe that Jesus would offer Himself as the Lamb who would redeem all those lost due to Adam’s sin. For this reason, Jesus is described as the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world.
When Proverbs 8:23 describes the LORD possessing wisdom before the foundation of the world, it was this sacrifice that Jesus made for us, that is being described. It is the same wisdom that Paul recounted to the Corinthian church, a plan orchestrated by God before the earth ever existed.
1 Corinthians 2:7 7 ...the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began. (NLT)
Consider the wonder of this prophecy
God, who knows all things, conceived a plan to create a universe full of trillions of stars, with many trillions more planets. On one small corner of the Cosmos, in a tiny solar system, on the third planet from the sun, He created an advanced form of beings that closely resembled Himself. He did this, knowing ahead of time that they would use their right of choice to rebel against Him. This would require His Son to come to earth and permanently put on the body of a man, only to be brutally beaten and crucified. All of the horrible things that mankind has done for all of the ages would be heaped upon the Son of God, in order to suffer the wrath of God while on the cross and pay the penalty for these horrendous acts.
It was this plan that this 155th prophecy from Proverbs 8:22-23 is speaking of as the wisdom of God.
This truth is communicated to us in the poetic language of Hebrew, using the word nis·saḵ·tî, from where the English word established is written in our Bible. This Hebrew word nis·saḵ·tî literally means to be poured out, emptied, or humbled.
The narrative of Jesus found in Philippians 2:5-8, describes Him as existing eternally as God. Also from everlasting (vanishing point to vanishing point), He determined that He would pour out (nis·saḵ·tî) His life for the sins of all people. In the process of performing this great act of Love for us, Jesus had to empty Himself of many of His rights as God, while existing in the form of a servant, and humble Himself to the point of death.
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Prophecy 267: Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would pour out His soul unto death.
Isaiah 53:12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.
This plan was formulated by God before time began
2 Timothy 1:9 (God) …who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel…
This wisdom of God, that Proverbs 8 speaks of, finds its origin in Jesus, the repository of all wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:3 …Christ, … in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
How glad we are today that God is so wise and wonderful that He would allow us our own choice to love Him or reject Him, and still provide us a wonderful way to be redeemed. It was to this opportunity that the Bible expends such great efforts to explain the entire plan of God to us, while allowing the opportunity to believe it or reject it.
Jesus emptied Himself, He humbled Himself, He poured out His life for us. May we be willing to do the same for Him.
Strong’s Hebrew #5258e, Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance: “cause to pour out, empty, pour out.”
