It is inevitable during a national crisis that many people will question the goodness of God.
People have asked in times past how a God of love could permit such suffering. The idea is that God, having the power to stop these tragedies before they begin, appears to do nothing prevent the resulting suffering. Continue reading “A Good God and Hurricane Harvey”
The Bible describes God as knowing all things from eternity.
“Known to God from eternity are all His works. Acts 15:18
Imagine that you have existed forever and there is nothing that you do not know. Would you create a race of beings that you knew ahead of time, would rebel against you and necessitate the death of your Son to save them?
Before God created the universe, He determined that Jesus would die for the sins of the world. Jesus is called; “The Lamb, slain from the foundation of the world.”
(Jesus) the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Revelation 13:8
This means that before God created us, He already knew that we would all be separated from Him by our sins. He sent His Son into the world to be the one method by which He could save us all.
Because the Lord knew what would happen in advance, He was aware of those who would believe His command to receive Jesus and be saved. Based upon this advanced knowledge, God “chose” these individuals and predestined them to eternal life. Continue reading “Does God Choose Some To Be Saved And Others To Be Lost?”
As we examine human life, we discover that every culture, every country, all people, and nations, have laws which order and direct human activity. Laws are necessary because the basic nature of the human species is towards evil. We are inherently selfish and often seek to look out for our own interests first. Without laws, evil would run rampant over peaceful people who are doing their best to live good and productive lives.
What is the origin of human laws? Where did the framers of the Constitution of the United States find the laws that allow the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans?
The Egyptians, Assyrians, Greeks, and Romans, as well as, many other great an powerful nations of the ancient world, worshipped many different gods. Not one before, ever possessed the laws that were given to the nation that originated from Abraham. When God gave Moses His law on Mount Sinai, these basic ten commandments changed, forever, the course of all human activity. No other nation in the history of the world had the code of moral laws, like those which governed the people of Israel. Every great nation since that time, has fashioned their own laws, from these basic ten laws that Moses received from God. Continue reading “The Bible As The Basis For All Human Laws”
It is really very easy to demonstrate—from the Bible, how God controlled time, changed circumstances, move people and events—to exact a specific outcome, in order to accomplish His will.
There are many instances throughout the Bible where seemingly ordinary circumstances have taken place, that are in fact, orchestrated and controlled by the Lord. Continue reading “How God Controls Time”
I have thought a lot about those who deny God’s existence; and after decades of observing the character and life of those who reject the Lord, I fail to see the attraction of a life without Him. First of all, the claim that there is no God makes no rational sense to me. It is obvious that we live in a universe that is inexplicable, apart from an eternal intelligence as its source. How highly educated men and woman, who have spent years studying and growing in knowledge, can come to the conclusion that this exceedingly ordered and delicately balanced universe came into being by chance, is a mystery to me. They admit that they have no explanation for how these finely tuned absolutes fixed themselves to allow for life, believing instead that it all happened by blind chance.
Science is based on observable data that can be tested. Since all of the data regarding the existence of the universe points to design and purpose, it seems that wise men and women should not discount the possibility of God as its origin. It is much easier to understand the universe if we put a designer into the equation rather than persisting in an uncaused, accidental universe with no purpose. At the heart of the salvation issue is the Holiness of God and His Glory. Because God is so magnificent, and all things have come from Him—all glory, honor, and praise belong to Him alone.
Isaiah 48:11 … I will not give My glory to another.
Psalms 24:1 The earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.
If we consider that the entire universe was created by God, everything that we can see, and even the invisible world of the atom, all things are made by God. It is reasonable that He would not allow any of His creation to receive praise for His magnificent works. If we give a gift to God, those things that we present to Him were already His to begin with. He is certainly pleased with our gifts when we acknowledge that He is the originator of all our gifts. If we make something and dedicate it to the Lord, the elements that we used to construct the article of our worship were already created by God.

Although the prophecies of the Old Testament describe the Messiah as God, specific predictions such as the prophecies written by Isaiah, also define Him as: pouring out His soul unto death. Possessing the power of creation and destruction, the Savior of the world will use His great abilities to save, not destroy.
Isaiah 53:12b Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death...
When the soldiers come to arrest Jesus, the testimony of John 18:3-6 describes Him as: knowing all things that would come upon Him. This language indicates that Jesus believed that He was fully in control of every event that took place. The soldiers were allowed to arrest Him because He permitted it to happen. How much of what we do everyday is determined by our own actions, and how much is determined by the plan and purposes of God for our life?
Each day, we make a myriad of choices which determine the direction that our life will take on that particular day–and even into the future. If God is sovereign over all the affairs of men, how much influence does our own will play in accomplishing the will of God? The idea behind the Sovereignty of God is that He governs all the events of the earth by His power. Alongside this Sovereignty–God has permitted us the blessing and responsibility we have personally, for our own actions. We see this clearly illustrated in the Life of Jesus, who is described as God–yet allows Himself to be put to death at the hands of evil men. Revelation 1:17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.”
Today, the term I am the first and the last, has lost its original meaning. At the time that John penned these words in the Book of Revelation, anyone hearing this term spoken by an individual, understood that they were claiming to be the eternal God.
Isaiah 44:6 “Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.’ ” Continue reading “God Will Have the Last Word in Our Lives”
The absolute authority of the Lord over the affairs of human beings is best observed by His placement of leaders in the governments of men. We might imagine that these authorities exist by their own will, or the will of a majority–we would be wrong. All authority comes from God alone. It is according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will that leaders of every government on the earth–for all time, exist. This principle is graphically illustrated throughout the Bible–by the lives of both good and evil men. God has chosen those who will rule, for His own purposes. Those who come against or even speak against any government which exists–do so in direct opposition to God Himself. Our place as followers of Jesus is to submit to the authorities which exist and do what the laws of men command us to do. Only in such cases where government commands us to not worship the True God of the Bible, are we to disobey.
Romans 13:1-2 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.
