Although I am certain that the evidence for God is overwhelming and empirical, I realize that there are many people who are not convinced. I find that this is usually due to a lack of awareness in the evidence that does exist. I have spent nearly 48 years investigating the evidence that exists for God, conducting detailed research, and investigation so that I might be convinced myself. I have published 36 books, and written over 3,200 essays on this site that are provided specifically to furnish evidence for those who genuinely seek proof that God exists. I have taught the evidence for God in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Evidence Is Not Always Enough

I have also learned over the past four decades that although many people say they are seeking evidence, in truth they are really seeking an argument. This is why evidence is never enough to convince some people. The human heart is a much greater barrier to faith in God than the mind which demands evidence.

A large number of people who saw Jesus open the eyes of the blind, heal the sick, and raise the dead, still did not believe in Him.

Jesus said to them, but you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me. ~John 6:36

But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him. This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted in 53:1: “Lord, who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm?” ~John 12:37-38

Evidence does not convince anyone who does not want to believe. The atheist’s demand for evidence is sometimes a facade that hides a heart that has no desire for God.

Providing Reasons To Believe

These things being said, there are a very select few who are genuinely seeking evidence so that they might believe. I was one of these 45 years ago. I was not raised in a Christian home. We never went to church or talked about God. I simply picked up a copy of the New Testament and began to read about Jesus. What He said and how He treated people was beyond anything that I had ever seen before. It took me about seven years of research into all of the gods and religions of the world, as well as an investigation into the scientific basis for the universe, with tremendous research into the origin and reliability of the New Testament, before I became convinced by evidence that God exists in the person of Jesus Christ.

Scientific Evidence For God

It is my sincere hope that the evidence I place before you here might be of some assistance in your own journey of knowledge into the existence of God.

Evidence From Science

The first evidence that I found compelling for the existence of God was in the scientific findings for the origin and operation of the universe. What I have discovered over the last thirty years is that the manner in which the universe began and expanded, could not have happened by any natural process. In this section I will provide you with a few articles which detail the scientific evidence for God as the source of the universe.

Evidence From The New Testament

It is alleged by several critics of the New Testament that the narratives of Jesus are not reliable. Some of the reasons given are that the text was written too late after the events took place. Other critics state that the narratives of Jesus in the New Testament have been changed over the past 2,000 years. Finally, it is the belief of many critics that because the New Testament contains references to supernatural events, this defines the New Testament as mythological. In this section I will provide you with resources that prove that 26 of the 27 books of the New Testament were written before 70 A.D., the text of the New Testament in its fundamental principles have never been altered in the past 2,000 years, and proof that the miracles described in the New Testament are not really miracles at all, but naturally occurring events that are possible within all the physical laws of the universe.

The Universe Exists Only Because Of Intelligent Acts, Not By Any Natural Process

If the universe exists by a natural process, there would be evidence of this in the processes that we can scientifically observe. Today we have the ability to examine the universe and see how it began, the procedures that took place at its inception, and how it has continued to expand during the past 13.8 billion years. If the universe is the product of intelligent actions that predetermined its commencement and controlled how it expanded so that intelligent life on earth could exist, we can examine the science of these events and determine whether they occurred by natural processes or were caused by an outside source. We don’t need to guess or simply “have faith” that such processes gave us our universe. Science is able to provide us with evidence whether we live in a universe by natural processes, or there were intelligent decisions made and engineered into our universe.

The first article that follows this paragraph is one that I highly recommend because it thoroughly explains the scientific process that was necessary in order for our universe to exist as it does today. Be patient in the first part of this article as I am seeking to establish as few principles and lay a foundation for how the universe began, before I actually get to the scientific evidence for how the universe came into being because of intelligent actions.

How We Can Verify The Reliability Of The New Testament Narratives Of Jesus

One of the preeminent problems that I have observed in my study of the New Testament manuscript evidence, is the prevalence of false and misleading information that is disseminated by critics of the New Testament. The idea that what is written about Jesus in the New Testament is a myth or fabricated story, is utter nonsense. When we examine the actual text itself in the surviving manuscript copies, we find that every requirement for historically accurate text, honest testimony, and genuine narratives about Jesus, is met and surpassed by greater certainty than any other ancient literature in existence.

  • The New Testament was written closer to the events than any other ancient event in history.
  • There are more copies (24,593) of the New Testament manuscripts that have survived time and decay than any other manuscript copies in existence.

Is a New Testament scholar an authority regarding the true facts and reliability of the narratives concerning Jesus? If you are like many people, you would say “yes.” What if this scholar is an atheist and doesn’t believe that God exists, or the texts written in the New Testament are true, would you still look to this scholar as an authority?

For a majority of Christians, the answer would be “no.” For a majority of atheists, the answer is “yes.”

Today the New Testament is under assault by an enemy disguised as a scholar. Millions of unsuspecting people have been fooled by the deception of best-selling authors that assert the New Testament is not to be trusted.

The New Testament contains proving criteria for anyone who asserts they are an authority in these texts. First, they must be a believer in Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit. Second, they must believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the primary method of communication God has chosen to reveal Himself.

Jesus said that unless a person is “born again” by the Spirit of God, they will not have the capacity to understand the surviving texts of the New Testament. Paul elaborated on this principle by saying that what is written and preserved for us is “spiritually discerned.” This means that only those who believe God exists and are diligently seeking Him (Hebrews 11:6) have the capacity to understand the texts of the Bible and be a genuine scholar, through decades of diligent study in these texts.

According to Jesus, a scholar is not a person with a secular education or a PhD. There are many men and women who have achieved these distinctions but do not believe God exists.

Today, modern New Testament scholarship includes atheist scholars. The Christian church has permitted this because these persons have done their due diligence in obtaining an advanced degree. The problem is that a PhD does not convey the Holy Spirit to anyone. Jesus said that no scholar can understand the texts about Him without the Holy Spirit.

Jesus often condemned the leaders of Israel, who were the “Doctors of the Law” while committing grievous errors in their exposition and hermeneutics of the Hebrew scriptures.

When Nicodemus came to Jesus late one night, he was a PhD in the Hebrew scriptures but he didn’t recognize that Jesus was the Messiah who was promised by the Old Testament scriptures. An advanced education prevented what was most needed: the Spirit of God that imparts genuine knowledge.

A person without the Spirit of God is not capable of genuine scholarship concerning the New Testament. We see this demonstrated by the comments and conclusions of atheist scholars in their published works concerning the New Testament. There are numerous errors made by these men and women because they do not have the ability to comprehend what they are seeking to evaluate.

According to atheist scholars, and many secular scholars, it is not necessary to believe in God or that the New Testament is true. In fact, they see their non-belief as a valuable asset in being impartial as a scholar. This is not true, according to Jesus and the writers of the Bible. The Hebrew and Greek scriptures were never meant for evaluation by any non-believer. Any person can read the Bible and gain enough understanding to make a commitment to believe in the God it reveals; they cannot gain sufficient knowledge to make valid scholarly criticism concerning these texts.

You Are My Witnesses: The Men Who Saw Jesus

The question of whether Jesus actually existed, is perhaps, the most important subject of all time. If Jesus healed the sick, walked on water, was crucified and rose from the dead, knowing whether these things are true is essential to proving His claim to be God and Messiah. Critics say that the men who wrote the Gospels about Jesus made up the whole story. The text of the New Testament states that men saw and heard the things they are writing and they are certain these things are true.

This book is a serious inquiry into the facts that can be known regarding Jesus. Today we have 24,593 surviving manuscript copies of the New Testament. The earliest nearly complete copies are dated from 175-225 A.D. If we have manuscript copes from 175 A.D., it is certain that the original autographs were written early in the first century. Critics say no, they were written late in the first century by non-eyewitnesses. When we examine the words of Jesus, it is clear that He commanded 12 men to write a record of all they had seen and heard, and immediately send this testimony out to the whole world.

These men had seen the most extraordinary events in the history of the world, is it possible that after they saw Jesus alive and He ascended back to heaven with the command, “you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere–in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth,” that they did nothing for 30 or 40 years? There is evidence in the New Testament that the Gospels were already written just a few years after Jesus rose from the dead, and these Gospels were being taught in churches all over Asia Minor.

There are 134 citations in the New Testament where the writers state that they saw Jesus and witnessed His miracles, death and resurrection. In the 27 books of the New Testament, there are 396 places where Jesus’ death and resurrection are described. Did these men really see and hear these things or is it all just a fraud? In the secular historical record there are 121 citations where Jesus and His followers are mentioned by non-biblical sources, recorded since the first century.

This book is written to provide evidence to support the fact that everything written about Jesus in the New Testament is true and can be relied upon. This book contains evidence of an early writing of the Gospels by eyewitnesses, and proof that Jesus was known to the secular world because they wrote about Him in their preserved records.

This book is the result of three decades of Biblical scholarship in studying the actual text of the Bible by efficient exegesis and hermeneutics.

Yeshu: The Historical Jesus

Today, there is a great debate amongst many scholars as to whether the man referred to as “Jesus of Nazareth” was a real person from history.

Before He was known as “Jesus,” the leaders of Israel called Him “Yeshu.” (ישו in Hebrew and Aramaic). It is from this oldest reference to Jesus, which was recorded in the Talmud that we find some of the most compelling evidence for the historical reality of Jesus’ existence in Jerusalem, during the period set forth by the four gospels.

When we arrive at the New Testament and discover that both the Bible and Secular history corroborate that Jesus of Nazareth was sentenced to death under the authority of Pontius Pilate, we have great confidence that His identity is certain.

Today, the world’s leading scholars agree that the crucifixion of Jesus is an established fact of history that is indisputable. In truth, the events of the scourging and crucifixion are described as ranking so high in certainty that they are considered by experts as irrefutable and the very basis for a conclusion that Jesus of Nazareth lived, died, and rose from the dead, as the New Testament records.

The orders of Pontius Pilate to have Jesus scourged and crucified are documented by one of the greatest Roman historians ever to write on this period—Tacitus.

As early as the second century, Tacitus writes in his “Annals” of the Roman Empire, 116 A.D. (Annals 15,44) that under Caesar Nero, Pilate ordered the execution of Jesus of Nazareth by crucifixion.

“Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus.”

This record of Jesus’ execution by crucifixion under Pontius Pilate, written by Tacitus, is of immense value for the historicity of Jesus Christ. Being an independent source from both the Roman government and the Biblical text, Tacitus authenticates the narrative of the four gospels—that Jesus was scourged and crucified exactly as the Gospels describe.

Scholars today confirm that the crucifixion of Jesus is a matter of historical fact, equal to any other event of antiquity. Even those who are regarded as scholars who do not believe in the deity of Jesus Christ regard the scourging and crucifixion as actual events that can be proven from extra-biblical sources.7

The scriptures of the Jews confirm that a record of history was noted in their scrolls regarding the events described in the four gospel accounts of the disciples of Jesus.

The most ancient of Hebrew references to Jesus of Nazareth are found in the Tosefta and Talmud, supporting the historicity of His existence as a genuine person from history, who was crucified under Pontius Pilate.

Later publications of certain rabbis alleged that the name “Yeshu” was used by the Jews at the time of Jesus to avoid pronouncing His name. This allegation has been proven untrue by archeological discoveries confirming that this term was being utilized by other men during that same time period. The record of history bears witness that the name “Yeshu” was made use of by the leaders of Israel in order to distinguish Jesus of Nazareth from other men who also were known as “Joshua,” during that period of history.

There are a few obscure references to the name Yeshu as a derogatory reference by the leaders of Israel, for Jesus, in the form of an acronym for the formula (ימח שמו וזכרו(נו (Y’mach Sh’mo V’Zichro, “may his name and memory be obliterated.” If this is confirmed, it also lends authority to the fact that Jesus is a real person from history who the Jews of that time hated intensely—in confirmation of the prophecies of the Old Testament—which predicted their hatred for the Messiah upon His arrival in Jerusalem.

In Isaiah’s prophecy of the Messiah: The Messiah is described as a stumbling stone for the religious leaders of Israel.

He will be as a sanctuary, But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense To both the houses of Israel, As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

A further citation of the name Yeshu is from the acronym of “yishtabach shemo vezikhro” meaning “may his name and memory be praised.”

Whether the name Yeshu was used in terms of worship or derision, history records that the designation, Yeshu, was certainly attached to Jesus of Nazareth, by the leaders of Israel, during the time period in which the four gospels attribute His presence in Israel.

The name Yeshu is perhaps the oldest confirming evidence from secular history that Jesus of Nazareth was in fact present in Jerusalem during the period which the New Testament narrative claims that He was there.

Yeshu from the Talmud

A surprising source for Jesus’ crucifixion comes from the Babylonian Talmud-Sanhedrin 43a, Soncino edition. This text confirms from the records of the Jews, the gospel narrative of the events that led up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.14

“On the eve of the Passover Yeshu was hanged. For forty days before the execution took place, a herald went forth and cried, ‘He is going forth to be stoned because he has practised sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy. Anyone who can say anything in his favour, let him come forward and plead on his behalf.’ But since nothing was brought forward in his favour he was hanged on the eve of the Passover!”

The evidence contained within this book, proves that Jesus of Nazareth is a genuine person from history, whose life, death, and resurrection is confirmed by multiple sources from secular and religious history.

He Is Risen: Historical Evidence That Proves Jesus Rose From The Dead

Many critics of Jesus Christ claim that His physical resurrection from the dead is an elaborate hoax, created by the writers of the New Testament. When we examine the ancient texts of the Hebrew scriptures, we discover that the death and resurrection of the future Messiah was predicted ten times, thousands of years before Jesus arrived on earth.

When we examine this evidence from the Old Testament, we discover that a bodily resurrection of the future Savior was foretold by God as a sign to the world that His promise of a Redeemer had been fulfilled.

When the writers of the New Testament recorded this event, they were eyewitnesses of Jesus’ resurrection. It was not until after Jesus rose from the dead, that the disciples of Jesus realized that His resurrection was a fulfillment of 400 Messianic Prophecies written by the prophets of the Old Testament.

The secular records of antiquity also contain substantial evidence of 122 historical citations which validate the events described in the New Testament narratives. The writers of the New Testament state 134 times that they saw Jesus with their own eyes. There are 396 citations in the New Testament that describe the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

It is possible to validate these claims made in the New Testament, and the secular, extra-biblical records of history, to prove that Jesus did rise from the dead.

“We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.”

“For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes.”

How Intelligence Acted Upon The Universe: Observable Facts Of Science

Since everything which exists has an explanation for its existence, there must also be a reason for the universe. Because all things temporal have a cause and the universe came into being at some point, the universe must also have a cause. As it is impossible for anything to cause itself, and the universe began before time, space, and matter existed, the universe was caused by a power that is transcendent of all things.

By the complexity, laws, and fine-tuning of the universe, we perceive that it has a purpose, to sustain life. In order for a universe to exist by the precepts we scientifically observe, an intelligence and power of unlimited capacity was necessary.

There Are Two Types Of Things That Exist

  1. Things that exist by necessity.
  2. Things which are caused.

Mathematics exists by necessity. It is not caused to exist by anything else; it exists by its own by necessity. The universe does not need to exist. It exists because it was caused. Since the universe was caused, the power necessary to bring it into existence is necessarily greater than our present ability to understand that power.

Have you ever looked at a machine or a computer and imagined that it created itself?

Physicists and Cosmologists have described the universe as the most complex machine that has ever existed. Some scientists and mechanical engineers describe the universe as “indistinguishable from a quantum computer.

If a machine or Quantum computer could not create themselves then it is certain that a universe which exists as the most complex machine ever to exist, bearing qualities of a Quantum Computer, also could not come into existence by itself.

There are only two possible explanations for the universe: Either it caused itself or it was caused. If it was caused, then it could only exist by the act of an intelligent Being. If God exists, He must be the most advanced and intelligent Being in existence. Human life and the universe bear evidence of His power and intelligence. Try as they must, the atheist insists that there is a natural reason for the universe. The problem is that all of the evidence we do have, proves the universe exists by engineering, and design, products of intelligence, not fortuity.

The reason that science looks for natural explanations for things that are profoundly complicated is because the ability to understand forces unknown to scientists today prohibit the acceptance of a non-material explanations. A non-contingent, non-material, eternal and unlimited Spirit Being is beyond the capacity of mortal men to comprehend. This is, of course, unless He chooses to reveal Himself to us.

We know today that specific and incredible processes were in play during the initial moments of creation. The universe did not come into existence by totally naturalistic causes. There is a reason for the order that we observe in the cosmos. Order never comes from chaos. Something never comes from nothing. When we behold a magnificent machine we understand that conception, design, engineering, and building were necessary for this device to exist.

The universe contains an organization and symphony of physical constants that have made life possible. The precise requirements that are necessary and provide enough stability for advanced life forms to exist are stunning. If we modify any of the physical constants of the universe, even slightly, we end up with a completely different outcome from our present universe.

This book describes the scientific evidence which allows the reader to make a determination that our universe was caused and controlled to exact a specific outcome; to sustain human life on earth by intelligence, not by happenstance or any evolutionary process.

A Universe From God: The True Origin of the Cosmos

According to a few noted theoretical physicists, the universe came from nothing, for no reason, with no purpose. Is there a rational basis from science to believe such as statement, and is this theory factually based? In simpler terms, do you believe that your family, your loved ones, and human life, have no reason or purpose?

This book details the evidence that is presented to us from the universe itself—which fully supports a valid conclusion that all that exists, does so for a reason. When we examine the framework for the universe and what was necessary to cause it to come into existence in the first place, the conclusions are both stunning and conclusive.

The evidence for God as the source of the universe is staggering. There are many noted scientists, cosmologists, physicists, and mathematical physicists who followed the evidence where it has led and concluded that an eternal and unlimited mind is the only rational explanation for the existence of the universe.

The Creator of the Universe designed His creation so that His invisible attributes (order, design, beauty, grace and love) can be clearly seen by the things that He has made. The Lord designed the Earth and the Heavens in such a way that any logically thinking human being would come to only one conclusion: “We have a beautiful, intricately designed, perfectly balanced and ordered Universe; we must have a Creator.”

Romans 1:19-20 …because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

First: God created each human being with an inner awareness that He exists.
Second: the evidence for God’s existence is known by the things that we can see all around us—creation (being understood by the things that are made).

God is a necessity: There no rational explanation for the existence of the universe outside the reality of a transcendent being, who possesses unlimited knowledge and power. Every thinking person on this planet understands that all things which have a beginning, have a cause. This would of course exclude God, since He is eternal and has no beginning.

A universe as vast and complex—yet clearly ordered, balanced, and calibrated to make life possible, must have a source that is infinite and eternal. Scientists know today that life on earth was made possible because of the precise manner in which the universe began. Had it not formed in a specific way, no life would have been possible on earth nearly 13 billion years later.

A finely tuned universe designed for life: The argument for a finely tuned universe is the most compelling evidence to prove the existence of God, because it demonstrates by science and mathematics that an intelligence is behind the universe. Leading atheist and author of “The God Delusion,” Professor Richard Dawkins admits that a finely tuned universe is a “wholly respectable reason for believing” the universe was created:

“There may be good reasons for believing in a god, and if there are any I would expect them to come from possibly modern physics, from cosmology, from the observation that (as some people claim), that laws and constants of the universe are too finely tuned to be an accident. That would not be a wholly disreputable reason for believing in some form of supernatural deity.”

The reality that the universe exhibits design characteristics which are only possible by intelligence, demands a rational answer. Science is able to tell us the mechanics of how the universe exists but it cannot tell us why it exists. To this end, only the One who made all things can fully satisfy our need to know and understand why we are here and what our purpose is.
