The kingdom of the Messiah shall come from the house of David and last forever.

Old Testament Prediction:

Psalms 89:35 Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David: His seed shall endure forever

New Testament Fulfillment:

Luke 1:31-33 “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.

Application:

David was promised a “house,” a continual generation, which would rule forever—through the Messiah.

2 Samuel 7:16 “And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”

When the angel spoke to Mary concerning Jesus, he revealed to her that her baby would be called the Son of the highest. His kingdom would be the fulfillment of God’s promise to David—a kingdom that would last forever.

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever.” —Luke 1:31-33

Jesus was questioned by Pontius Pilate, whether He was a king:

John 18:37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world…

The future kingdom that was promised to David was established at the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, the physical manifestation of this kingdom will be delayed until Jesus returns with His redeemed church, at the end of the seven-year Tribulation Period.

Revelation 19:14-15 And the armies in heaven (the redeemed church), clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron.

From Jerusalem, Jesus as the Messiah will rule over the entire earth for one thousand years. When this Millennial kingdom has concluded, Jesus will continue to rule the entire universe forever. Prophecy 320.
