Daily Devotional: September 22

There are people you will meet during your life, who have letters after their names. They have completed the courses that this world requires to grant them status as intellectuals. Education and learning do not impart understanding.

Having wisdom to know how to use knowledge is a gift that only comes by a knowledge of My word. Solomon wrote over 1,000 proverbs. He starts with fear of the Lord as the beginning of wisdom, and continues from there. Knowing how to live your life once you acquire an education is accomplished by studying My word. The principles you need for a happy and productive life do not come from the philosophies and wisdom of this world.

Perhaps you didn’t go to college. Maybe learning is difficult for you. I impart understanding to the humble, the weak, the insufficient. I resist the proud and those who think themselves wise. I pour out grace and wisdom to the humble and diligent.

If you have been given the honor of knowledge, then balance all that you have been taught in this world with all that I have said. If you do this, you will be truly wise and counted amongst the greatest of this world.

Let my cry come before You, O Lord; give me understanding according to Your word. Let my supplication come before You; deliver me according to Your word. My lips shall utter praise, for You teach me Your statutes. My tongue shall speak of Your word, for all Your commandments are righteousness. Let Your hand become my help, for I have chosen Your precepts. I long for Your salvation, O Lord, and Your law is my delight. Let my soul live, and it shall praise You; and let Your judgments help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant, for I do not forget Your commandments.  ~Psalms 119:169-176

I have read Your words, Jesus. The lawyers of Israel constantly questioned You in an effort to trap You into saying something they could condemn You for. In every conversation, You knew exactly what to say and when to say it.

Your wisdom was not equalled by any of the educated and powerful men who tried to take authority over You. In all these things, You never went to any of their Rabbinical schools. You did not earn a degree or initials after Your name. In spite of this, Your wisdom came from the words of God, and no one was able to stand against You.

Please grant me, Lord, the wisdom that comes from Your word. Let me know You and understand who You are in a way that exceeds the knowledge of all others. Give me this knowledge so that I might be able to communicate You to those I meet, and help them to find You and be saved. In this, I want to bring You great glory—for this is what You deserve, Jesus.
