A Father’s Love

It may be hard for you to understand how My Father could allow Me to die for the sins of the world. The story really begins a very long time ago. We knew that the creation of man would necessitate My death. It was clear to Us that granting man the privilege of choice would cause his downfall. We looked far into the future and saw that all the suffering and trials of human life on earth would lead to a far greater weight of glory.

I wanted to demonstrate for you a practical illustration of what love is. You have the idea that love is a feeling, and it is; but there is a far greater dimension to My love than you have imagined. Genuine love is sacrificial. It doesn’t look at the personal benefit but the benefit of others. My love was demonstrated by what I did at the cross.

By setting aside My glory and power for a time and allowing evil men to brutally crucify Me, I could provide a righteous basis for your salvation. All those who sin will die. This is the penalty for sin according to the law. In order to satisfy the requirements of the law, I offered My life for yours so that you would not experience the penalty of eternal death yourself. I took your punishment; and when you place all of your trust in what I have done for you, I account your trust in Me as righteousness, and save you, forever. It’s just that simple, and this is how the Father showed His love for the world.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ~John 3:16

And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, Father, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began. ~John 17:1-5 (NLT)

Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? “Father, save Me from this hour”? But for this purpose I came to this hour. ~John 12:27

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. ~1 John 3:8

These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.  ~John 20:31

Everyone who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. ~John 3:36 (RCR)

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.  ~Romans 5:8-9 (NLT)

Jesus, I did not realize many things about my salvation and what it cost You. I see now that my sins had built up a debt that I owed to God. If You had not come and died for me, I would have paid for my own sins by my eternal death. I understand now that the penalty for sin is death, just as the penalty for violating the law of gravity could also result in death.

I was shocked to learn that You could not simply forget my sins when You forgave them but that Your justice required that the penalty was paid before I could be released from my debt.

Thank You, Jesus, for taking my place and paying the debt I owed. I can’t imagine why You would do such a thing for me. I’m just glad that You did. I accept Your generous and loving offer. I look to You as my Savior from now on. Please help me to live for You in a manner that is worthy of Your great sacrifice.
