Great Grace In The Midst Of Suffering And Death

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us“. ~Romans 8:18

Although there is great suffering and even death in the world today, there is also great grace and love being poured out by God. People are returning to Jesus and love is spreading over the planet. In the midst of this great trial, there are many good things happening that were not possible before this Pandemic.

People are changing; hearts are being transformed; we are working together again. Love is coming back into our world and we are all realizing what is most important. When this is all over, as it certainly will be soon, let’s not go back to how we were, but continue on as new people who really love and appreciate what matters most; love for God; love for people; giving of self which is better than taking; sharing the Love of God and caring about each other to make a better world.

Many people feel like their world has slipped beyond their ability to control. We are helpless to stop the spread of this terrible disease, and protect the people we love. We wonder where God is in the midst of this Pandemic, and why He has allowed global suffering to cover our world. It is true that when everything is going well we often do not appreciate the people and circumstance of our lives. It is when our world falls apart and things suddenly change that we begin to evaluate our life. Many take time in tragedy to reflect on their relationship with God, or lack thereof.

I have received several communications from people who had fallen away from Jesus who are coming back to Him as a result of this global crisis. We have been forced to stay home and spend time with people we care about. We have time to read the Bible again and discover the wonderful and encouraging words of God that were written for times like these.

There is death, and many people are sick and suffering. There is also healing for most, and death only sets people free to live in a perfect world where they will never get sick or die again. There is so much to be grateful for in the middle of all this suffering and our thankfulness for what remains overshadows our fears and feelings of loss.

This is our time to change ourselves and become better people. An opportunity to be more loving towards others that we now realize are so very important to us. Time to reflect on the passing of this life that we now see is like a vapor that is here for a moment and then it’s gone. Time to think about the life that is to come and what we must do to prepare for it. Time to get things in order and begin to live differently and change how we were before our world was turned upside down.
