Two Issues Concerning Abortion That You Might Not Have Considered

Recently in the United States the issue of Abortion has been at the forefront of our discussions.

Some women say that it is their right to choose what to do with their bodies; others insist that it is the body of the baby living inside the woman that is at issue.

I want to give you two reasons that you might consider, when thinking about the issue of Abortion.

One is Scientific, the other, Spiritual

When a woman becomes pregnant with a baby, she passes some of her cells into the body of the baby, and some of the babies cells pass into the mother.

In a phenomenon known as “Fetal Maternal Chimerism,” the cells that pass from the baby into the mother, stay in her bloodstream, and other organs of her body for many years. The cells from the baby stay in her brain for the rest of her life.

Without knowing, every woman who becomes pregnant, is undergoing a bond with the life that is within her that will last forever.

In a Spiritual sense, the Bible describes the creation of a baby in the womb of a woman, as the work of God who creates all that exists.

Psalms 139:13-17 “You, LORD, made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”

There is so much more to the question of life in the body of a woman than whose rights are most important. God creates life in the womb. He causes the baby growing inside the body of a woman to quickly becomes a part of the woman, in every part of her body, not just her womb.

In the mind of the woman the cells of her baby that have been growing, have permeated and become a part of her. She might have the baby removed from her body, but that child, will always remain in the mind of the mother and be remembered.

As a pastor for over 32 years I have counseled many women who have had an abortion. Long before I knew about the scientific facts of Fetal Maternal Chimerism, women have told me that they cannot get the memory of the baby that was aborted out of their minds.

God forgives and heals, and He does not condemn women who made a decision to abort their baby, but later regret that decision. The Bible gives us good indication that every baby that is conceived in the womb, has an eternal soul (Psalms 139). For babies who are aborted, or die very young, it is possible that these precious little ones, go immediately into the presence of the Lord in heaven.

If you have had an abortion and have asked God to forgive you, He has. You will see your baby in heaven, and have eternity to enjoy all that you missed while on earth.

  1. Do you want abortion to be illegal? This is the problem in my mind. If you think that the two ends of the gestation spectrum–the single fertilized human egg cell on one end and the several-trillion-cell newborn on the other–are morally equivalent, that’s fine. Tell anyone who will listen. But have the humility to let others make their own moral conclusions.

      Article Statement:

God forgives and heals, and He does not condemn women who made a decision to abort their baby, but later regret that decision. The Bible gives us good indication that every baby that is conceived in the womb, has an eternal soul (Psalms 139). For babies who are aborted, or die very young, it is possible that these precious little ones, go immediately into the presence of the Lord in heaven.

As a Christian, I personally do not care if it is legal or not. It just simply does not matter to me if it is or not. For in the eyes of God, regardless of your belief, we are all sinners whether we have had an abortion or not – the point of the article. So, in God’s eyes, I am no better than the woman having the abortion.

The God I worship, The God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, is forgiving of all sin minus one (sin against the Holy Spirit); and, that is the main point of Christianity in my view – Jesus came the first time to forgive sins. Jesus was always saying to us, “Your sins are forgiven. Go now an sin no more“. So it is His desire to forgive us. But to obtain that forgiveness, we have to ask. But enough of that, I am sure you have had your fill of that from Pastor Rob. Point is … we are sinners … we are going to sin … and God knows and understands this … and, it will not be this way forever. A secondary point of the article.

So, now, I am at loss as to where the lack of humility is within the article statement or the article itself. This article, and more specifically, the above article statement actually works in favor of your concern. Consider. A woman is raped and has an abortion. Later in life after the sting of the rape has died down some, she begins to feel some guilt for having the abortion. In that example, she has a comforter in God, who well knows her pain, and, if she wants comforting all she would have to do is ask, and, every true Christian would embrace her warmly. The main point of the article.

Now, in my opinion, and, since I brought it up, Matthew 12:24 is a good example of sinning against the Holy Spirit. I have read many of your post and I do not take you as someone logically unreasonable, so, I am certain I do not need to explain this verse. And. I will be happy to if you wish.

      From your comment:

If you think that the two ends of the gestation spectrum–the single fertilized human egg cell on one end and the several-trillion-cell newborn on the other–are morally equivalent

I agree with that statement from a material perspective but not from a morality perspective as your are suggesting. And it is Ok that we disagree here. You are right in that they are not equal materially. But this is where you and I will begin to disagree as it relates to the morality of the issue; for, I will not compromise one inch on the morality issue no matter how much you protest. Because to God and His morality they are completely equally even up to our death as a very, very old man; for, God sees us as His good creation from our conception to our death. Now will you have humility to allow Christians the opportunity to make their own moral conclusions and then express them without being attacked as you have demanded for the Atheists?

So to restate. I am a Christian who has a neutral stance on abortion because I understand, as does God, our sinful nature. People are going to sin and get themselves in trouble. It happens all the time. So I personally do care if it is judicially legal or not. What I care about is that one can achieve forgiveness for it later when the guilt (may) pour in.

So Bob. Full disclosure. I debated in my own mind whether to respond to your comment because this is such a misunderstood and touchy subject but my spirit overwhelmed me. Hopefully I have expressed my view in an acceptable way in the eyes of my God.

I wish you nothing but the best. Have a blessed day.
