The Universe Speaks To Us Of God’s Existence:
Let’s take a journey together, back about 3,000 years, to the Judean hills above Bethlehem. David is tending his father’s sheep. It’s a dark night and David is lying on his back in the tall grass—looking up at the night sky.
David says in Psalms 8:3 “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have made, Who am I that you would even think of me?”
Then later David writes in Psalms 19:1:
“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.”
David said that the universe is speaking to us every night, as we look up and see the majesty of what God created, before us. David is saying that God is speaking to us through what He has made.
There are three ways that God has chosen to speak to us.
- Through the universe He created.
- Through the Bible He authored.
- Through His Son that He sent.
In this study we are going to take a look at the universe and learn some of the incredible things God has presented to us that prove only He could create all that exists.
I found it interesting a few months ago when I asked an Artificial Intelligence if any of the gods or religions of the world, have proven they are true. Without hesitation, the AI told me that only one was based on historical, eyewitness testimony. Only the God of the Bible has proven that God exists.
This AI also told me that because our universe was fine-tuned for life—this could not happen by evolution or a Big Bang. I was amazed by this response, and of course, The AI is telling the truth—it has all the facts.
In this essay we will direct our study at the universe that God created, and learn how He did it.
If you read Psalms 19 carefully, where David writes that the universe is speaking to us, when we get to verse 4, notice what David adds:
Psalms 19:4 “Yet their message (of the universe) has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.” Remember this statement “Their message…”
In the New Testament book of Romans chapter 10, Paul uses this verse from Psalms 19:4, to convict the Jews in their rejection of Jesus as the Messiah. Paul begins chapter 10 of Romans by stating: “The longing of my heart is for the people of Israel to be saved.”
Then in verse 14 of Romans 10, Paul asks “How can people know that Jesus is their Savior unless someone tells them?”
Then in verse 18, he asks a rhetorical question about the Jews: “Have the people of Israel actually heard this message about the Messiah?”
He answers his own question by citing Psalms 19:4, Yes, Paul says, (concerning God speaking through the universe) the Jews have heard God’s message, verse 4 of Psalms 19: “Their message has gone out throughout the entire earth…
What message? David said the universe is speaking, AND Paul said the Jews heard this message…
Psalms 147:4 David wrote concerning God: “He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.”
Every star that exists, our God gave them a name—and as with all Hebrew names, each name has a meaning.
Jesus’ Hebrew Name is “Yeshua:” which means in Hebrew: “The Lord is Salvation.
God named every star, according to David in Psalms 147:4, and every one of these names has a meaning.
Astronomers estimate there are roughly 400 billion stars just in our Milky Way Galaxy. Multiply 400 billion by the 2 trillion galaxies estimated in the universe, and you end up with numbers in the range of 300 sextillion stars in the observable universe. How many is 300 Sextillion?
If you started counting 1 number per second and continued to count, it would take you 9.5 TRILLION YEARS to reach 300 Sextillion. AND OUR GOD NAMED THEM ALL!
In the oral tradition of the Hebrews, one of the ways they were taught the scriptures and memorized them was by recounting the creation of the universe, called by Job, “the Mazzaroth,” 12 Constellations of 36 stars that ancient Jews saw in the night sky.
Remember that all of the Bible is about the Messiah, and so, all of the names in the Mazzaroth—the 12 Constellations, are about Jesus, the Messiah. God is the one who first described these 12 constellations, He called them, “The Mazzaroth.”
Job 38:4-5 God asks: “Where were you (Job) when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know!
Then in Job 38:31-32 GOD ASKS JOB: “Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion? Can you bring out the Mazzaroth in its season?
The Mazzaroth that God describes for Job is the 12 Constellations that are in the night sky, that we can see from Earth.
It is interesting that God mentions the Pleiades because this is a group of about 1,000 stars that have such a great force of gravity, that they move together through the universe. God mentions this fact of the universe, 4,400 years before any scientist knew this was true.
So God created the Mazzaroth, these constellations, to reveal His Glory to us on earth.
But we also remember that satan takes the good things that God said and created for us, and twists them into evil. Genesis 3:1 “Did God really say…”
The Hebrew people knew the names of these constellations, and that in each name that God gave for these 12 Constellations, told the story of God’s redemption of man by the Messiah.
Listen carefully as I recite the Hebrew names for each of these 12 Constellations (that God named), and what each name means:
- Bethulah—The Promise in the Seed of the Woman (The Virgin of Genesis 3:15). Messiah would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14).
- Mozanaiun—Man’s insufficiency. Humanity is weighed in the balances and found wanting; a price must be paid.
- Akrab—The great enemy underfoot. (Genesis 3:15) Satan attempts to destroy the Seed (line of descendants that brings Jesus, the Messiah).
- Kesith—The dual-natured conqueror (God and Man), victorious in battle against the serpent.
- Gedi—The Atonement: the slain Lamb as the sin offering for the redeemed (Leviticus 16).
- Deli—Living water is poured out on the redeemed (John 7:37-39). Anyone who believes in me—Living Water will pour out…
- Dagim—The Redeemed blessed, yet bound; the people of God awaiting full deliverance.
- Taleh—Lamb—The Lamb that was slain and resurrected, securing eternal redemption.
- Shur—The Messiah returns as Judge and King to rule the nations (Numbers 24:8-9).
- Thaumim—The two natures of Christ (God and Man); the union of Christ and His Bride (the Church).
- Al Sartan—A Holding Place—The Redeemed gathered and securely held in the Messiah’s protection (John 10:28). “no one can snatch them out of my hand.” Also 1 Thess 4
- Arieh—The Lion of the Tribe of Judah triumphs, destroying the serpent and establishing His reign (Rev 5:5).
It is also interesting that when God spoke to Abraham in Genesis 15:5 “Then the Lord brought Abraham outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.”
The Hebrew in this context is specific in that God asked Abraham to NUMBER (SAPAR) RECOUNT-TELL THE STORY that is in the names of these stars—the Mazzaroth. It is possible that God is reminding Abraham of the story of the Messiah that was known in the Mazzaroth—and one of His descendants would be that Messiah.
It says that “Abraham believed God, and God counted Him as righteous.” WHAT DID ABRAHAM BELIEVE—THAT GOD WAS SENDING A SAVIOR—Through Abraham’s descendants—A MESSIAH—Abraham believed this, God counted him righteous because of his belief in a saving Messiah.
Remember that these are the names that God gave these Constellations, but The LORD warned us not to worship the moon, the stars, or anything in the skies—but to worship only God:
Deuteronomy 4:19 And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the LORD your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.
We don’t worship what God created, we worship the God who created them…
Later the names that God gave these 12 Constellations, were corrupted by satan in pagan nations and became the worship of the Zodiac/Astrology.
LISTEN CAREFULLY TO ME: As the followers of Jesus we should never participate in Astrology or the study of the Zodiac.
When we see the stars in the night sky, we worship our God who created the stars and told us the story of Jesus coming into the world as the Messiah to die for all sins and offer all of us salvation.
From the beginning in the minds of the Hebrew people, when they retold the names of the Mazzaroth, it was to remind them of the plan of redemption that the Messiah would bring, not Astrology or the Zodiac, which is satanic in origin.
Dr. Danny R. Faulkner, PhD in Astronomy and a member of the “Answers In Genesis,” team. Answers In Genesis is an extremely conservative Christian organization. This is what they say about the names God gave the stars in the Mazzaroth:
“According to this theory, God presented His full plan of salvation to Adam, and either God, Adam, or his early descendants preserved that knowledge by naming the constellations and stars. With the coming of the written Word of God, the gospel message in the stars was no longer needed and faded from use. With the passage of time, ungodly men perverted the original gospel in the stars, mingling it with pagan mythology and ultimately turning it into the religion of astrology.”
Chuck Smith speaks of the Mazzaroth, the names God gave the Constellations, Many other reliable expository Bible teachers teach the Mazzaroth. But remember that in Israel the study of the Zodiac or Astrology, carried the death penalty because it led to the worship of demons. Don’t do it!
So David writes in Psalms 19, that the early Hebrew people heard about God’s creative power and salvation, as they read it in Psalms 19:
- The universe speaks to us
- It tells us God exists
- It proves that only the God of the Bible could create our universe.
- It declares that He has brought us salvation through Jesus, the Messiah.
This is Paul’s argument in Romans 1:20—when people say there is no evidence for God—and they make excuses for why they don’t believe in God.
Romans 1:20 “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
When David wrote Psalms 33:6 and Psalm 19:1-4 How did he know the Lord created the heavens and the earth? David believed that Moses wrote Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
How did Moses know that God created the heavens and the earth? He wasn’t there!
Paul said in Galatians 1:11-12 “Dear brothers and sisters, I want you to understand that the gospel message I preach is not based on mere human reasoning. I received my message from no human source, and no one taught me. Instead, I received it by direct revelation from Jesus Christ.”
What many people don’t understand is that Jesus is Yahweh from the Old Testament, who told Moses about His creation of the universe…by direct revelation.
How do we know that God ONLY told Moses about the creation?
Numbers 12:1-3 Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses…they said, “Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And the LORD heard it.
Numbers 12:6-8 “And the LORD said to them, “Now listen to what I say: “If there were prophets among you, I, the LORD, would reveal myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams. But not with my servant Moses. Of all my house, he is the one I trust. 8 I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the LORD as he is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?”
How did the Lord create the Universe? David wrote in Psalm 33:6 that it was: “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.”
- How The Physical Constants And Fine-Tuning Of The Universe Prove God Exists
- Scientific Evidence For God: A Fine-Tuned Universe
Can you think of anyone else in the Bible who spoke and created things or commanded the physical laws of the universe?
Mark 4: Jesus commanded a storm to calm; Matthew 8: Jesus commanded the Centurion’s servant to be healed; Matthew 9: Jesus commanded a man crippled to walk; Mark 5, Jesus commanded a little girl dead, to rise; John 11: Jesus commanded Lazarus to come out of the tomb.
In the NT, Jesus is called “Lord,” Kurios, The same LORD—Yahweh, in the OT. Yahweh who spoke the universe into existence in Genesis 1:1—Is Jesus who spoke and healed everyone, commanded a storm to calm, and raised the dead.
Genesis 1:1, “at the beginning, where it says, God created the heavens and the earth, the Hebrew word is “Bara, to make something from nonpreexisting material.
This is an interesting statement because in your New Testament, Paul wrote that everything that exists, was created from things we cannot see: the atom. How did Paul know this?
Paul: Hebrews 11:3 “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” How did Paul know the universe was made from things we can’t see (the Atom)?
Paul: Colossians 1:15-17 “Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created… He created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—Everything was created through him and for him, Jesus existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.”
How did Jesus create the universe by a command? David in Psalms 104, Isaiah in 40:22: and 42:5, and Jeremiah 10:12, all wrote that God “stretched out the universe at its creation.”
This term, “Stretched Out” just happens to to be the exact scientific term that Cosmologists use today to describe how the universe began—the exact way that David, Isaiah, and Jeremiah said—“It was stretched out… like a curtain…”
The problem for scientists today is that David, Isaiah, and Jeremiah wrote this 3K years ago—when no scientists knew the universe was “stretched out.
It was not until 1915, that Albert Einstein said the universe had a beginning and it was stretched out—expanding. The universe began as a tiny particle of densely compacted energy, and it exploded in one direction—like a curtain—like the graphic image.
Jeremiah 10:12 also said—that in addition to stretching out the universe at its beginning—God did this, at His discretion.” The Hebrew word here is specific: “nâṭâ, literally—He knew what to do before He began—He knew the precise procedure.
The events that took place when the universe began were so fast and happened with such precision, that we had to define time in a new way—Planck Time.
There are more Planck Times in one second than there are seconds in 14 billion years.
- Gravity and Electromagnetism had to begin at -430th of one Planck Time.
- If they were not created at that precise moment, no universe would have begun.
- Jeremiah said the Lord knew this before He began—NATA—foreknowledge
- No evolutionary—The Big Bang process is capable of knowing anything in advance.
- Hydrogen and Oxygen had to be created at precisely 3 minutes. A minute before or after—no universe.
- The Atom (that everything is made from) had to be created precisely—The protons in the middle had to be exactly 1,836 times larger than the electron that flies around it so that they have the exact same electrical charge—or no universe—no people.
- If we were to alter the electrical charge of the proton and electron by one part in 100 billion, every atom in the universe would self-destruct.
How God Created The Universe: Science And The Bible In Symmetry
How did a natural, evolutionary process know this? It couldn’t—Evolution works by accidental events, not foreknowledge or engineering skill—
Our universe presents us with evidence that it was made on purpose—by precise events—controlled by God. Not an accident as the Big Bang Theory claims.
This is what these 209 dials on the image represent—precise settings at precise moments.
—I have a job for you. I want you to create a universe. Each one of these 209 dials has to be set precisely—within one atom of accuracy—for our universe to exist.
Can you do it? C’mon, you are an intelligent thinking being, can’t you do this? NO?
Then why would anyone think that a purely accidental event could fine-tune these 209 dials and create our universe?
There are 209 of these dials because there are 209 fine-tuned constants in our universe that had to be precisely set, or the universe would not begin—expand—or produce earth with human life.
The settings on all 209 of these dials have a tolerance so small that if you turn it right or left BY ONE ATOM—even slightly—the universe would cease to exist.
What is the chance that this could happen by accident? LET ME ILLUSTRATE THIS:
If I blindfolded you and sent you out into the universe to find just one atom that I painted red— that exists in all the atoms of the Cosmos, and you found it on your first try—this is the chance that all these physical constants could have happened by accident.
- How is it that we have our Milky Way galaxy that is in the exact location of the universe it needs to be for Earth to exist?
- How is it that Earth is in a solar system that just happens to be in the exact location it must be for Earth to exist?
- We have a sun that is just the right age, the right size, the right color of light, and the right distance from Earth.
- Earth that has the right size moon, (larger) with the right axle tilt of 23.5 degrees (no seasons). 2/3 covered with water, rotates at 1,000 mph—precisely what is necessary for human life to live on earth.
Just a Coincidence? No—there are too many coincidences—
209 of these essential constants—some that were required 1. when the universe began—others 2. during the expansion of the universe—others that were required for the earth and our solar system to make human life possible.
Genesis 2:7 (NLT) says that “the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. “apar,” in Hebrew—dust, dirt, mud, all the components that are in the dirt of the earth.
One of the principal elements in the dirt of the earth: is Carbon.
We are a carbon-based life form.
All known life on Earth—including humans, animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, and even viruses are carbon-based. Carbon is a foundational principle in biology and chemistry. Our DNA, skin, bones, muscles, every part of a human being—requires Carbon. Carbon is only found in a second-generation star. Jesus knew this…
When the universe began and expanded out as a curtain, it produced first-generation stars. When this First-Generation star burns through all of its energy, it explodes into a Supernova, and the energy from that first-generation star produces a Second-Generation star.
Our Sun is a second generation Star, Only second-generation stars contain carbon—the compound that God said in Genesis—He used to make us. When our sun was being formed by God, some of the material from this star was ejected and became the planets that are in our solar system.
One of these planets is described in Genesis 1:3-31, as Earth, where God made our planet ready for man in six 24-hour days. On Earth God created Carbon that He used to make Adam and Eve.
God had to know all of these requirements that must be in place before He started to create our universe. An evolutionary process does not know anything before it begins—every event is random and by chance. These are fine-tuned constants.
No evolutionary process can fine-tune anything—this is why thousands of scientists are changing their minds about the origin of our universe—because they know that no natural—Big Bang process can fine-tune 209 physical constants and make a universe possible.
Only God can do this.
Sir Roger Penrose is considered one of the most brilliant mathematical physicists to ever have lived.
Penrose said that when our universe began, there was an extremely low state of entropy. Entropy is the amount of chaos or disorder that is present.
Penrose said that according to the science of the universe when our universe began, there was nearly a zero state of chaos.
Now wait a minute. If the universe began by the biggest explosion ever started, when Jesus said, “universe begin,” how could it not be during an extreme state of chaos?
Every explosion I have ever seen resulted in extreme chaos and disorder.
Not during the beginning of our universe.
Penrose said that it is impossible that this could happen. He calculated the mathematical probability of our universe beginning in an extremely low state of chaos as
Roger Penrose: The Multiverse v. Intelligent Creator: Examining The Cosmological Evidence
1 chance in 10 to the 10th power, to the 123rd power.
In Math this is known as a double exponential improbability and is only used to describe probabilities so small they are functionally indistinguishable from zero — essentially a mathematical impossibility—that our universe exists by chance.
This is a number that one of the world’s most brilliant mathematicians has calculated for the chance that our universe was created by an accident, that number is ZERO.
There is absolutely no chance whatsoever that our universe could have begun unless the Eternal God, our Jesus, spoke and created it from nothing.
The universe presents us with scientific evidence that God exists and He is the only source that could have brought our Cosmos into existence.
