365 Prophecies: Prophecy 51
The Messiah’s kingdom established under David, will continue forever.
Old Testament Prediction:
2 Samuel 7:16 “And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”
New Testament Fulfillment:
Luke 1:33 “And He (Jesus) will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Revelation 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”
We established by Prophecy 49 and 50 that 2 Samuel Chapter 7 is directed at David’s line of descendants that will bring the Messiah. This 51st prophecy defines David’s house, kingdom, and throne as being established forever. It is clear by the context that these prophecies are not speaking of David’s specific kingdom, but the Messiah who will come in the last days to establish a kingdom that will never end.
By the term “house” in 2 Samuel 7:16, the prophecy is referring to the household or family of David. David has two lines that we are following: One through Heli, who brings us to Mary, Jesus’ mother; a second through Jeconiah, who brings us to Joseph. The line through Jeconiah was cursed by God, who declared that “no one” coming from his family could ever be the king of Judah. See Prophecy 49 for details.
This prophecy was fulfilled when Nebuchadnezzar took Jeconiah captive back to Babylon and appointed his uncle Zedekiah as the king of Judah (2 Kings 24:6-20).When we study the genealogy of Matthew, we do not see the line of Zedekiah; it is Jeconiah who is presented to us with Joseph as his descendant. If Joseph had been the biological father of Jesus, then He would have been disqualified as the Messiah, and this 51st prophecy could not be fulfilled. It seems that the Lord presents Joseph’s line to us through Jeconiah so that we would understand the impossible circumstances that would have disqualified any true son of Joseph from being the Messiah. Had it not been for the incredible forethought of God to make Joseph the stepfather of Jesus instead of his natural father, none of the prophecies of the Messiah could have been fulfilled by Jesus.
This 51st prophecy states that the house, kingdom and throne of the Messiah will all be eternal in their duration. The specific details of this prophecy will be fulfilled completely when Jesus returns to the earth at the end of the seven-year Tribulation period.
It is interesting that when king Nebuchadnezzar came and took Jerusalem captive, from that moment, the house, kingdom and throne of David’s line were never restored again. They will not be restored until Jesus returns to earth the second time to establish His kingdom.
Because Jesus fulfilled this prophecy and proved that He is the only one who is qualified to be the Messiah, all those who trust in Him will share rulership with Him in His earthly kingdom for one thousand years.
Revelation 5:10 “And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
