365 Prophecies: Prophecy 325
The Messiah is called “The Desire of All Nations.”
Old Testament Prediction:
Haggai 2:7 …and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations…
New Testament Fulfillment:
Revelation 11:15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”
Righteousness and peace are the desire of every nation. Though both have eluded mankind since we were placed on this planet, they are nevertheless the yearning of every nation. When Jesus returns to the earth at the end of the seven-year Tribulation, He will bring with Him His church. From Jerusalem, Jesus will rule all the nations with perfect righteousness and perfect peace. The rule of the Messiah will be absolute, with no right of appeal or public redress—for the God of the universe will take His rightful place in both ownership of the earth and in Lordship over all beings who dwell in His kingdom.
Revelation 19:15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron.
Jesus is “The Desire of Nations.” It is He who will bring a perfect government to earth and make it possible for all people to live together in peace. Not until Jesus returns as The Prince of Peace will the people of earth be able to experience true and lasting peace.
During the last three and one half years of the seven-year Tribulation, the oppression and terror of the antichrist on the earth will be unbearable. Those who come into a relationship with Jesus during this time will find that survival is nearly impossible. The antichrist will require total worship and allegiance to himself. He will not allow anyone to worship and serve the Jesus. If people will not give their worship to him willingly, he will have them put to death.
We see a hint in Revelation Chapter 20, for the method of execution that will be used:
Revelation 20:4 …Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
As the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowl judgments are poured out on the kingdom of the beast and those who worship him, the people who refuse to take his mark will find life unbearable.
The term, Desire of All Nations, is not a reference to some material desire that people will have, but the desire for a person. A desire for the Messiah to return and stop the violence and horror of the Great Tribulation period. It will be widely known and understood from the time the antichrist sets up his image in the new temple at Jerusalem, the Messiah will return 1,290 days later.
Daniel 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days.
At the beginning of the seven-year Tribulation, the new world leader whom the Bible refers to as the antichrist, the beast, and the son of perdition will make a peace treaty between Israel and the surrounding Arab nations, for a period of seven years. For the first three and one-half of those years, the earth will enjoy a measure of peace.
In the midst of this seven years, the true agenda of the beast will be revealed, as he changes from peacemaker to a man of war and absolute tyranny.
Daniel 9:27 Then he (the beast) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week (seven years); But in the middle of the week (3 ½ years) He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.
Jesus warned those who would be alive when the antichrist commits this act of abomination, that this will begin a time of horror unlike anything since the world began. Jesus said that if He did not shorten this reign of terror to just three and one-half years, no one would survive.
Mark 13:14-20 “So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter. For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be. And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.”
It will be the earnest yearning of every nation to see the Messiah return to earth in order to end the terror of the beast. Haggai predicts that He will be known as “The Desire of all Nations.”
