271: Isaiah 55:1

365 Prophecies: Prophecy 271

The Messiah will offer salvation to everyone, without cost.

Old Testament Prediction:

Isaiah 55:1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.”

New Testament Fulfillment:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Why salvation is a free gift?

At the heart of the salvation issue is the Holiness of God and His Glory. Because God is so magnificent, and all things have come from Him—all glory, honor, and praise belong to Him alone.

Isaiah 48:11 … I will not give My glory to another.

Psalms 24:1 The earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.

If we consider that the entire universe was created by God, everything that we can see, and even the invisible world of the atom, all things are made by God. It is reasonable that He would not allow any of His creation to receive praise for His magnificent works. If we give a gift to God, those things that we present to Him were already His to begin with. He is certainly pleased with our gifts when we acknowledge that He is the originator of all our gifts. If we make something and dedicate it to the Lord, the elements that we used to construct the article of our worship were already created by God.

If God were to permit us the ability to “earn” our salvation, then we would have something to boast about. “Yes, Jesus saved me, but I helped God out a little….” Sounds pretty foolish if we really think about it.

So that God alone receives all the Glory for our salvation, not a single part of redemption, from start to finish, has anything to do with us. All we can do is believe it, accept it, and give thanks to God for it. We cannot boast about anything that we have done to earn our salvation, because we didn’t do a thing.

If this important principle was understood by the world, then the problem of working to earn salvation, that is claimed by many churches and religious organizations, would cease to exist. It is apparently very appealing to the pride of fallen human beings to believe that people can work to earn God’s favor. For some, they are offended that they cannot participate in their salvation. Some people believe that they have an inherent goodness and that God should recognize this and give them some credit for taking the time to recognize and respond to God. This belief is due to an unawareness of the Holiness of God. If we feel the desire to approach God, this need was placed in us by Him. If we respond to the Holy Spirit upon the awareness of our sins, it is He who placed this desire in our heart. How then can God condemn us when we fail to respond, if it is always He who makes it possible for us to even have the desire to come to Him? This is a paradoxical question that has knocked on the intellectual doors of man’s heart for thousands of years.

God knows all things. There is nothing that He must learn. He knew before the universe was created, who would respond to Him and receive Jesus as their Savior. He knows who will never respond and will be lost forever. This did not prevent God from offering salvation to everyone, nor preclude Jesus from dying for the sins of all people, for all time. Since Jesus’ suffering was directly linked to the number of sins He died for, it seems to me that He should not have died for the sins of all those whom He knew in advance would not receive Him. Rightly so, God did not consult with me on this matter. The Bible is clear that Jesus died for the sins of the whole world. God felt it important that everyone should know that His offer of salvation was for every descendant of Adam, and that we could each, personally, have the opportunity to respond to Him.

This important truth is one principle of Christianity that is singular amongst the world’s religions. In every system of religion that I can think of, there is not a solitary instance where salvation is completely free to the willing participant. There is always something that a person must do, in order to be found acceptable to any particular method of obtaining eternal life.

The act of Jesus dying on the cross, paying the full price required by God for salvation, stands alone in stark contrast to the work-based religions of the world. In a few religious systems, sin is completely ignored and is not an issue at all. Doing good works as proof of one’s sincerity is pronounced and highlighted, without any teaching that all human beings are inherently sinful and in need of salvation.

Jesus said that God sent Him into the world, not to condemn the world; but that through Him, the world might be saved.

John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Jesus did not come to condemn us because we were all already condemned. Our sins had relegated us to eternal death and separation from God. There is virtually nothing that any person could do to change this. We existed as helpless and hopeless.

John 3:18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Because God is good, merciful, and very kind, He could not sit idly by and allow our hopeless condition to continue. The Lord was compelled to give Himself in exchange for all of us.

What is truly amazing is that God knew in advance that we would all sin and be lost. The reasonable questions would be: “Why did He bother?” The answer to this question cannot be fully known until we are finally with the Lord in heaven, where we will understand why He chose to die for those who would never receive Him. I can only speculate that this had something to do with His desire to make known His character and nature in practical terms. He would create a race of beings who were like Him, in their ability to determine their own destiny. With the ability and power to choose, these rights could be used to either love and serve God, or deny and defy His claim upon our lives. Of course, a majority of us understand that the most meaningful relationships that we can experience with another human being, come when those persons choose, of their own free will, to love us. If the only way that we could obtain their love and companionship was to compel them to love us, their affections would not be nearly as meaningful as when they do so by their own choosing.

We should not confuse the issue of fellowship with God by determining that He created us because He had a need. God has existed forever and is complete, apart from His creation. He does not need us, nor can we offer to God any enhancement to His existence by loving Him or by submitting to His will. His demands for obedience are for our benefit, not His. We are the beneficiaries of doing what He commands. All of God’s law is good and will enable us to enjoy a rich and satisfying life while here on earth and into the world to come.

Those who chose to disobey God and live their lives for themselves, in the end, are found to have empty, meaningless, and hopeless lives. There is nothing more heartbreaking than a person who has denied God his entire life, who arrives at his last day without any hope beyond the final beat of his heart. Conversely, the person who has lived a large part of his life in obedience to God, because of his love for the Lord and with an understanding that His ways are the best ways, comes to the end of a wonderful life of blessing and purpose, eager to enter his new and eternal life the moment that his body ceases to function.

The Universe as evidence

I have thought a lot about those who deny God’s existence; and after decades of observing the character and life of those who reject the Lord, I fail to see the attraction of a life without Him. First of all, the claim that there is no God makes no rational sense to me. It is obvious that we live in a universe that is inexplicable, apart from an eternal intelligence as its source. How highly educated men and woman, who have spent years studying and growing in knowledge, can come to the conclusion that this exceedingly ordered and delicately balanced universe came into being by chance, is a mystery to me. They admit that they have no explanation for how these finely tuned absolutes fixed themselves to allow for life, believing instead that it all happened by blind chance.

Science is based on observable data that can be tested. Since all of the data regarding the existence of the universe points to design and purpose, it seems that wise men and women should not discount the possibility of God as its origin. It is much easier to understand the universe if we put a designer into the equation rather than persisting in an uncaused, accidental universe with no purpose.

When we begin with the possibility that there is a God who has all knowledge and power, and we add to this—the evidence of a written text that has communicated advanced knowledge of many future events, we begin to see how prophecy and creation work together to uphold the reality that God exists.

As I have spent thousands of hours in research and writing my observations regarding these prophecies, increasingly I have become aware of the presence of God in every facet of life. For this reason, I have written commentary and applications for each of these prophecies that brings these predictions into focus by the lens of creation, and how we view the universe from its origin. The plans that God has made for mankind, as exhibited and revealed by the life of Jesus Christ, allow us to rationally understand the universe and why it exists in the first place. God created the vast expanse of space to show us who He is and display His great power. The Bible describes the universe as existing, for the primary purpose of allowing us to see His glory and to speak to us of His existence.

Psalms 19:1-2  The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. 2 Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge.

Romans 1:19-20 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead…

People will thank the earth, the sky, and the things on the earth for their existence, but not thank the God who made them. Such foolishness is irreconcilable to a rationally thinking man. If a person was born on the earth and had absolutely no contact with another human being while he was advancing in years, if he had never heard a single word on creationism or evolution, this person would logically and reasonably conclude that someone made this beautiful world that he lives in. It is a fairy tale and a foolish myth to conclude that the universe exists of its own volition. There are far more objects on the earth that are less complicated than the Cosmos, and yet no sane person has ever declared that any of these things are self-created or accidentally caused.

The complexity of the atom, the intricacies of the cell, the amazing structure of complex gas and matter which have formed the planets and stars, are immensely complicated. Applied mathematicians specialize in the computation of certain events and actions that exist by chance. It has rightly been stated that the mathematical possibility that a single cell could have come into existence by itself is beyond chance. Even with billions of years of evolutionary processes, order never comes out of disorder. Try placing a cord from your iPhone in a drawer for a few days and see what happens. Place two socks in the dryer and notice how many come out of the dryer. All things on the earth and in the universe move towards chaos by themselves. The order that governs the universe today requires a massive power and intelligence to cause and keep the universe in a state of order.

The dissipation of energy in an open system produces order, while the chaotic behavior of a system where there is a great deal of energy being dissipated, called “dissipative structures,” form themselves but begin to decay soon afterwards. No one has ever shown by science or mathematics that in these dissipative structures, the end product is order.[1]

It is certain that very small changes can combine themselves together to cause major effects. Many times, these effects are viewed as chaotic. What we see in the universe is that order can often degenerate into chaos. If we were able to look back into the ancient history of the earth, we would likely be able to see that in ages past, what is today chaotic, was at some point ordered. Today, this is what the newest thought on chaos is attempting to accomplish. The term “fractals” are defined as “geometric shapes whose structure is such that magnification by given factors reproduces the original object.”[2]

A few examples of “fractals” are snowflakes, coast lines, and star clusters.

It may be that in the near future, an underlying order will be found instead of the complete randomness of chaotic systems. This would be consistent with the laws of thermodynamics.

Today, those who espouse evolution and order from chaos put forth the theory that chaos can generate higher order, particularly in the case of the evolution of human beings from lower life forms.

A large question that is as yet, still unanswered, is how the increasing complexity that is required by evolution could overcome the process of the second law of thermodynamics which brings disorganization and entropy to all things in the universe. In every system, whether it be opened or closed, all things move towards decay. We observe that our universe is winding down and headed towards a certain “heat death.” This certainty is an insurmountable problem for those who put forth their theory that evolution is a fact. The truth is that the universe is observed as moving towards chaos by the process of decay. In reality, chaos theory can never explain the complexity of the universe, due to the existence of entropy and a universe that is destined to die in the distant future.[3]

If we assume that the age of the earth is four billion years old, and evolution has occurred during long periods of inactivity in producing any life forms marked by other periods of mass extinctions, how did a rapid appearance of advanced life forms appear in a relatively short period of time? Since it was chaos that caused the extinction in the first place, how did life burst forth in a very short period of time, compared to the very long period that is determined to have occurred before these extinctions took place?

During a catastrophic event such as a mass extinction event, all of the former survival mechanisms that had previously evolved over great periods of time would be destroyed. Those species which might have survived would be required to maintain very high levels of macroevolution, causing one species to evolve into a completely new species, in a very short period of time.[4]

The problem with this theory is that, no empirical evidence exists which can demonstrate that this is possible. These theories, when examined, are found to come from philosophical speculation without any real evidence that they are even remotely possible. This type of science is more “faith” than fact—the very area of contention that scientists today claim as their basis for a denial of the equally worthy theory of creationism.

When left on their own, nothing moves towards order. There must be an outward force and intelligence that has acted upon matter or an object, to bring it into order, for the possibility of order to exist.

Not a single scientist can explain how the universe began. Not a single scientists can explain how inanimate objects became the highest order of beings that have the ability to think, reason, and create things themselves. No one has ever demonstrated by evidence, how an ape evolved into a human being. All of the current arguments for evolution, are based on philosophical arguments rather than any certifiable science.

The only evolutionary processes that we can observe and test are changes within certain species which allow adaptation to their environment. No one has ever seen a higher species evolve from a lower species.

Evolution is a theory for how life began, not a scientifically testable or provable fact. Why then do we allow the declaration that evolution is a settled fact to continue? Until evolution between species can be proven, other theories such as creationism and intelligent design should be studied, talked about, and taught as valid and plausible possibilities for how life began.

Liberals pride themselves on being open minded, except when it comes to matters of evolution, abortion, or accountability to a Creator. In these issues, those who think of themselves as very wise and evolved in their free thinking have absolutely no tolerance for any other opinion.

When we hear celebrities, such as Bill Maher, make statements that evolution is an established fact, it causes us to wonder just how smart many of these public figures really are. Some famous people seem to believe that because someone with the letters “Ph.D.” behind his name says that something is a fact, that it must be a fact. Of course, the reason that evolution is so widely accepted is not for its scientific truth or established facts, but due to the convenience offered to those who are seeking to live their lives apart from God.

In this 271st Old Testament Prophecy, Isaiah writes that the purpose of the Messiah was to make salvation possible for all people. If evolution is true, then Jesus life and death carry no purpose, and all the things that He said are meaningless. This would mean that all life is meaningless because we also have no purpose. We are the product of a set of meaningless and random acts that accidentally caused human life. Your life means nothing, and you have no real purpose for living.

Is this really what we believe?

Do you actually accept that your life, the life of your wife and children, mother and father, sisters and brothers, are meaningless? No rationally thinking person can accept the theory that life is meaningless. We all feel a deep and abiding sense that life is a beautiful and magnificent gift that allows us to richly enjoy, with great satisfaction, the love and joy of this incredible world which we were born into. The only explanation that answers all of the deep and mysterious questions of life is—God, who loves us, who has created this universe for those made in His image to live in, and who cares deeply for every person. Even when we turned aside from Him by our own free will, He continues through every generation, to pursue each one of us and to tell us about His Son who died for our sins to offers every soul eternal life, if we only receive Him.
