Daily Devotional: October 2

Author Of Salvation

Your salvation rests in My hands, not in your own. Just as you could do nothing to save yourself except trust in what I have done for you, so also can you do nothing to complete your salvation except continue to trust Me. I have done everything that is required to bring you to heaven. I was tested as a man in all the same things that you will be tested. I never surrendered to temptation and sin, but I felt the desire to do so. I understand how you feel when temptations draw you in. I know the struggle that resides in your heart, when sin looks so attractive and promising.

I did not give any part of My life to these things because I wanted to be your champion and make your salvation complete. I accomplished everything that was necessary to save you. You are safe with Me.

Your salvation and eternal life depend upon one thing: Will you stay with Me till the very end? If you abide in Me and My words abide in you until that last day, then I promise that all you are enduring now and all you refuse to partake of in this world for My sake will be worth it.

On that last day, no one will turn to his companion and say that he regrets living for Me. The glory that you will see, the beauty and peace that will be yours, the love and fulfillment that will flood your heart—all will be worthy of the trust you placed in Me. Hold on till the end.

Jesus…who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him. ~Hebrews 5:7-9

And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. ~Matthew 24:12-13

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than everyone, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. ~John 10:28-29 (RCR)

For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as we did when we first became Christians, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. ~Hebrews 3:14 (TLB)

How I thank You, Lord, for making my salvation possible. If I should try and keep all of Your laws, I would never have a chance. I can barely hang on some days to stay faithful to You.

I know that, left to my own efforts, I would never make it to heaven by my good works. I am grateful, Jesus, that You were victorious in defeating sin and death for me.

I am awestruck that You lived a perfect life, without sin, though You felt all the same temptations that I do. How wonderful that Your Father sent You to make our salvation possible, as You became the author of eternal redemption for all those who place their trust in You.

Help me to abide in You and never give up my trust in Your ability to bring me to heaven. Enable me to overcome this world and make it home safely.
