Daily Devotional: October 4

A Foundation For Rewards

I didn’t save you only for heaven; I called you to receive rewards. After you place your trust in Me, there is work to do. You are My disciple, and the way I make Myself known to the world is through your life.

I am the foundation for salvation. If you build upon Me and the work that I have accomplished at the cross, you can achieve rewards. I will present you with crowns that will determine your authority and area of service during My one thousand-year reign on the earth.

If you build with materials that last—sincere efforts to make Me known and a desire to glorify Me—then there will be a reward. If you build with materials that do not last—seeking your own glory and to make yourself known—you will suffer the loss of reward. It all comes down to intent, desire, and motive. Those who serve Me, because they love Me and want the world to know who I am, will be blessed with power when I come again. I will appoint you as a ruler over the nations with Me, and your joy will be made full.

After I come for My church, and we return to heaven, I will call each of you to My throne, one by one, and recognize the work you have done for Me while living in the time before I come again. This is your chance to do something that will have lasting and eternal value. If you take it seriously, you will never regret that you lived your life for Me.

According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. ~1 Corinthians 3:10-14

And the saved sang a new song, saying: “Jesus, You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign with You on the earth.” ~Revelation 5:9-10 (RCR)

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one of us might receive what is due for what we have done while living in our bodies, whether good or evil. ~2 Corinthians 5:10 (RCR)

The twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worshipped him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” ~Revelation 4:10-11 (RCR)

Jesus, how incredible to imagine what it will be like on that day—as billions are gathered around Your throne and we all realize that we are finally with You in heaven.

One by one You will call us before you and evaluate all of our works done on earth. There will be no judgment for sins, for you took all these away at Your cross. We will receive rewards for the things we did for You while still alive.

I know that many of the things I do for You have selfish motives. I secretly want people to notice me and recognize my good works. Please help me put away these private desires for self and to focus all my efforts on making You known.

On that day, I will join with the twenty-four elders in heaven as we cast all the crowns, which You have given us, before Your feet and proclaim that only You, Jesus, are worthy of glory, honor, and power.
