Crippling Regrets:

Dwelling on mistakes of the past is a mistake. It not only doesn’t help, it may cripple you from going forward tomorrow. Remember that I have died and carried all your sins with Me to the cross. In your mind, these things might still exist; but in My records, they never happened.

If there was anyone who had reason for regret, it was David and Paul. After his sin with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah, David was cast into crippling regrets. His son Amnon was murdered, daughter Tamar was raped, and oldest son Absalom betrayed him and died tragically.

David’s close friend and counselor Ahithophel betrayed him, and the people whom David risked his life for abandoned him.

Paul was responsible for the deaths of many people who trusted in Me, and he later felt the sting of his errors, though he did these things in ignorance.

Your past mistakes do not define you. What you do today, and every day after your failures, determines who you really are. Even if you continue to make error after error, I will never leave you, stop loving you, or cease blessing your life. Don’t quit now or ever. Get back up and keep trying until your final day on earth. I am with you always, and nothing can separate you from My love.

Blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit.  ~Psalms 51:9-12

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 3:13

So stop evaluating Christians by what the world thinks about them or by what they seem to be like on the outside. Once I mistakenly thought of Christ that way, merely as a human being like myself. How differently I feel now! When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!  ~2 Corinthians 5:16-17 (TLB)

Lord, thank You for this reminder. It is a great comfort to know that all my sins no longer exist and that in Your mind, they never happened. How incredible it is, Jesus, that You can make me a perfect person by Your precious death for my sins—as though I had never sinned.

Help me to let go of all my past mistakes and not revisit the regrets I often feel for things I have said and done. Remind me that I am forgiven and to set my mind and heart free from the torment I can create for myself when I refuse to let things go.

Let me also give this gift of forgiveness and forgetting to all those who hurt and offend me. I pray that I might treat people the same way You treat me, as though I had never sinned.
