Know When To Say Nothing:
In the world you live in, people pride themselves in speaking up when wronged or in disagreement. There is seldom a person who will not speak to defend themselves when maligned, or one who fails to voice their opposition when opposed.
While on earth, I was often accused by the leaders of this world. The men who held authority thought that they had power over Me. In these situations, I often said nothing. I trusted My life to My Father, and I did not seek to defend Myself.
How much you believe that Your life is in My hands, and whether or not you really trust Me to take care of you, can be seen by your responses to people while under adversity or confrontation.
No one can do anything to you or against you without My permission. You are Mine. Your name is engraved on the palms of My hand. If you find yourself under the power of someone who is seeking your harm, ask yourself this: “Do I trust my Lord, or will I seek to defend myself?”
Abraham Lincoln knew Me well and trusted in My sovereignty in all things. He often said: “He who seeks to defend himself has a fool for a client.”
Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are. ~Proverbs 26:4 (NLT)
And the high priest arose and said to Him, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?” But Jesus kept silent. ~Matthew 26:62-63
He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. ~Isaiah 53:7 (NLT)
Jesus never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor did he threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. ~1 Peter 2:22-23 (RCR)
…Yet I will not forget you. See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands; your life is continually before Me. ~Isaiah 49:15-16 (RCR)
Jesus, help me today to understand that You are my defender and the One who stands with me. You know the truth about who I am and all that I say and do. Cause me to not rise up in anger when people say hurtful or untrue things about me.
Allow me to comprehend that You were also misunderstood and wronged by people in this world, but You trusted Yourself to the Father and relied upon Him to justify You.
Give me wisdom to understand that the fastest way to disarm someone who speaks against me is to say nothing; for, in not defending myself, You come to be my protector, Lord, and show me that by saying nothing I cause my enemies to be powerless, without speaking a word.
