The Bible Is Right: The Universe Proves By Scientific Evidence That Just One God Exists

The First Way That God Has Proven His Existence: The Universe He Created

In my new book, “A Universe That Proves God,” I explore some of the scientific evidence that proves our universe was made by a person, not strictly an accidental, natural process.

Nearly three thousand years ago, David wrote in Psalm 19 describing the universe as providing us with sufficient evidence that God exists: Psalms 19:1-4: “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.”

An objective examination of our universe proves it is not the product of happenstance that many theoretical physicists claim. The events that produced our universe were directed to achieve a specific outcome: life on planet Earth. Today, a majority of scientists understand that life on Earth is the exception, not the rule. Former claims that due to the sheer number of galaxies, stars, and planets contained in the universe, there must be advanced life and civilizations on other planets, like Earth, have faded into doubt.

The Fermi Paradox asks the question, “If there is so much intelligent life on other planets in the universe, why haven’t we found them, or have they found us?”[1] A significantly more advanced civilization with the capacity of interstellar travel would certainly have located humans on Earth by now. The fact that they have not gives us pause that they actually do exist.

In examination of the precise events and physical constants that must be precisely set to allow for life on our planet, we understand today that life anywhere else in the universe is extremely unlikely.

The following is a list contemplated by scientists who have considered the premise of the Fermi Paradox:

  1. The universe presents us with billions of stars similar to those in our Milky Way Galaxy.[2]
  2. Several of these stars and the planets that are in their solar systems have earth-like conditions.[3]
  3. A great number of the stars in these other solar systems, like ours, are much older than our sun. The planets in these solar systems that are also in an inhabitable zone would likely have much more advanced intelligent life than Earth and humans.[4]
  4. The likelihood that an extremely advanced civilization has developed interstellar travel technology is highly likely.
  5. In consideration of a great expanse of time, interstellar travel would permit an advanced civilization in our own Milky Way Galaxy the ability to traverse the galaxy “in a few million years.”[5]
  6. If these other advanced civilizations exist, they may have already visited other earth-like civilizations.[6]
  7. Despite the above postulations, no evidence exists that any other civilization has ever discovered or visited Earth.[7]

The premise of the Fermi Paradox concludes that based on the above considerations, there are likely no other planets in the universe that support intelligent life. You can see the great contemplation that has gone into consideration of how and why our universe exists. These seven points do not mean that there is no intelligent life in the universe, only that the existence of human-like beings anywhere else in the universe is highly unlikely.

Unprovable Assertions

Science has never proven that our universe came into existence by itself or as the result of an already existing universe. The scientific evidence which exists today—proves that our universe must have come into existence as the result of a thinking Being.

Every initial event at the commencement of the universe took place by a precise schedule and in the correct balance. These events happened in order—and guided—impossible by the natural order of the physical universe, which functions according to natural laws rather than human or supernatural laws.

Our universe was no accident. Science proves our universe was caused because of the orchestrated conditions that existed when the universe began. After searching for a naturalistic cause for the Cosmos, many scientists today admit that a being must be responsible for our universe, just not the God of the Bible.[8]

Astrophysicist John Barrow received his PhD from Oxford in 1977. Barrow is the author of 25 books and over 550 essays. One of Barrow’s primary efforts has been to communicate scientific ideas in terms simple enough for the average person to understand.

A few of John Barrow’s books include The Left Hand of Creation (1983), The Anthropic Cosmological Principle (1986; with Frank Tipler), Theory of Everything (1991), The Universe as a Work of Art (1995), The Book of Nothing (2000) and The Constants of Nature (2002).

Barrow was awarded the Templeton Prize because of his contribution to the development of the anthropic-cosmological principle.[9]

The anthropic principle is predicated upon the certainty of how delicate the conditions are in the universe that make it possible for life to exist on Earth. With over 200 essential constants observed, any slight variation would have made human life on Earth impossible. In this book, I have described the precise balance between gravity and electromagnetism that both came into existence at the precise moment they were necessary and in the exact balance with each other—required. Had gravity and electromagnetism not entered the commencement of the universe precisely when they did, and at the exact balance between each other, our universe would have immediately collapsed back upon itself.

John Barrow, in his book: “The Anthropic Principle,” describes the essential relationship between science and the Bible—encouraging dialogue between people who believe in the Bible and science.

Barrow and many others write that the fine-tuned constants that exist in our universe are the intentional actions of a Being who knew ahead of time—when these physical constants were necessary and engineered their entrance with tremendous precision.

The beginning of the universe at a specific moment, when nothing existed prior; the beginning of gravity and electromagnetism, precisely balanced within 1 part in 10^40; the beginning of hydrogen and helium at precisely 3 minutes into the beginning of the universe—also precisely balanced at a precise setting; and a total of 209 essential constants—many precisely set during the first few moments of Planck Time—required intelligence. Anything that is precisely set within very limited parameters could not have happened by random chance or any natural process.

Scientific Evidence For God

It is possible to prove that a Being with unlimited knowledge was responsible for the universe. When we compare what we know about the science of the universe at its commencement with the texts of the Bible that describe how the universe began, we find that there is logically only One Being capable of this feat of technology and power. The God of the Bible,  called “I AM,” first revealed Himself to Abraham in the Old Testament.

You might be interested to learn that no other god or religion claims to have created the universe. All of these gods and religions say that they were created from within the universe that already existed. Only the God of the Bible claims that He is the Creator of all that exists.

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth” (Psalms 33:6).

“Through Jesus, God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together” (Colossians 1:16-17).

The First Way That God Has Revealed Himself: His Universe

Many people are under the assumption that the universe simply began and expanded into what we now observe. This idea is called: “Big Bang Cosmology,” but it does not prove a natural process created our universe—it suggests random events are responsible. Big Bang Cosmology does not present us with scientific evidence for why the universe began when nothing existed prior.

“According to the Big Bang theory, the matter for the Big Bang originated from an extremely dense and hot point, often referred to as a singularity, where all the energy that would eventually become the universe was concentrated before rapidly expanding and cooling, creating the matter we observe today.”

This theory is identical to the first sentence found in the Bible: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Big Bang Cosmology does not explain where the matter came from that was dense and highly compressed. “Scientists currently don’t have a complete understanding of what existed before the Big Bang or what caused this initial state of concentrated energy.”

Three primary answers are offered for the source of the matter that began the universe, but each of these three fails to provide us with any scientific evidence they are true:

  • Cosmic inflation: describes a period of rapid “cosmic inflation” that is conjectured to have happened just before the Big Bang. This theory fails to provide an answer for where this matter came from in the first place. Everything cannot come from nothing. The Bible describes God, in Genesis 1:1, creating the universe from nothing, but it adds the detail that God created the matter that was tightly compressed at the moment the universe began and expanded rapidly.
  • Quantum mechanics: describes an unseen world that existed before our universe that involves guesswork as to how quantum mechanics was responsible for the origin of our universe. This theory exists only as a mathematical model.
  • Prior Universe: describes a preexisting universe or an infinite number of other universes that existed before ours, which spawned our universe. As previously described in this book, there is no scientific evidence that proves any other universes existed before our own.

First, there is no scientific evidence anywhere that anything existed before the commencement of our universe.[10]

Second, the universe began with matter being created instantaneously with space and time to mark its duration. This is what science proves, and it is what Genesis 1:1 states.

Space expanded to accommodate the movement of matter, out from its origin as a densely compacted particle of pure energy. Time began at the same moment as matter and space, as did the laws that govern these processes and the mathematics that allow us to understand the universe.

There was nothing before the beginning of the universe, so where did the pure energy come from that was converted into matter that would make up everything that exists?

We cannot see beyond our universe, and there is no evidence anywhere that there are any other universes. This idea was formulated by atheist theoretical physicists as an answer to the question presented by the existence of a fine-tuned universe. This is because our universe is fine-tuned for human life on Earth. More than 200 precise settings, in balance with each other, were present during the expansion of the universe—that would later permit Earth and human life to exist.

The only source that can fine-tune anything is an intelligent being. There is no natural process that can precisely balance a physical constant to a precise setting. Natural processes involve random acts, not predetermined outcomes.

Gravity is a force that acts between any two objects with mass. Magnetism is predicated upon the specific properties of objects. Magnetism may pull two objects together or push them apart. In simple terms, without a precise balance between gravity and electromagnetism, the universe could not exist. Despite the necessity of this precise balance to allow our universe to begin, expand, and continue to function—both of these essential constants—did not exist when the universe began. They were created and came into existence when they were precisely required.

Could a natural process know before it begins—when it must also accidentally create gravity and electromagnetism? Of course not. Intelligent persons are the only entities known that can know what must be required before an event begins.

You might notice the inclusion of the word “accidentally.” This is the process that a natural or evolved system uses. Evolution does not include known quantities or outcomes. Natural processes are accidental. For this reason, scientists today understand that our universe could not have begun or continued by any accidental process. It was caused to begin and exist.

Fine-tuning requires advanced knowledge of the events that will take place so that the precise setting for gravity and electromagnetism, for example, is precisely set at the specific moment they must exist.

What unguided natural process can direct a specific outcome? How could chance know what gravity and electromagnetism must be set at during the first Planck Time of the universe? This balance must be set exactly for the universe to expand and produce galaxies, stars, and planets. Unguided natural processes rely on random events or evolutionary processes of success and failure before they can achieve a successful process. Whenever we find a precise balance in any process that is fine-tuned, this is empirical evidence of nonnatural events.

The scientific evidence we do have for the beginning of our universe demands a guided, purposeful commencement and expansion to exact a specific outcome: human life on Earth. We know the universe was guided because it presents us with scientific evidence of fine-tuned Physical Constants.

Fine-Tuning Requires Intelligence, Or It Cannot Happen

In the universe in which we live, there were precise events that took place in the domain of Planck Time. The smallest possible measurement of time is a Planck-Time. There are a billion, billion, billion, billion, billion, Plank Times in one second.[11] There are more Planck Times in one second than there are seconds in 14 billion years.[12]

The precise setting for Gravity and Electromagnetism took place during the first Planck Time (-430 of one second) and did so with extreme precision. Only a Being with an unlimited mind can engineer and control such an event. Our fine-tuned universe proves that God must exist.

The Entire Universe From Inception Was Fine-Tuned

Anything that is fine-tuned cannot happen by accident. By its very nature, precision occurring on the first attempt—eliminates a natural process as the cause. The basis of an evolutionary or natural process is predicated upon great expanses of time—with billions of attempts—resulting in a singular success.

When we examine the scientific evidence left from the beginning of the universe, we find that every fundamental event that allowed the universe to expand and produce stars, galaxies, and planets was precisely controlled to exact a specific outcome. These are markers of intelligent action by a thinking Being.

Random acts cannot produce order and precision. If any of the fundamental events that allowed an orderly expansion of the initial energy that existed at the commencement of the universe were altered by even 1 part in 1015, the universe would have collapsed back upon itself and ceased to exist.[13]

There are 209 of these physical constants that were set within very precise parameters. Change even slightly during the entire history of the universe, and human life on earth would never have existed.

In the infinitesimal division of Planck Time, gravity and electromagnetism came into existence and were guided to a precise balance so that the expansion of the universe could continue. The mathematical chance that gravity and electromagnetism could have achieved this precise and fine-tuned setting by accident is 1 in 10^40.

If the ratio between gravity and electromagnetism was increased by only 1 part in 10^40, only very small stars would have formed. If the ratio were decreased by the same amount, only very large stars would have formed. For life to be possible on Earth much later, there must be both large and small stars present in the universe.

Earth came into existence as a result of a second-generation star. The element that human beings are made from, carbon, is only produced by a second-generation star. If gravity and electromagnetism were not precisely balanced at a billionth, billionth, billionth, billionth, billionth, of one Plank Time, our star—a second generation star—would never have formed, the earth would never exist, and we humans would never exist.

Large stars produce the elements needed for life; small stars burn at the precise rate required to sustain life on a planet such as Earth.[14]

Physicist and Cosmologist Paul Davies also confirmed that the likelihood the correct ratio of gravity to electromagnetism could have occurred by accident is a 1-in-10^40 chance. The probability that this precise calibration could have occurred on its own would be like trying to hit a coin at the far end of the universe from Earth on the first attempt.[15]

When we consider the incredible accuracy required to allow the universe to begin with such precision, we realize that we are living in a universe that was specifically engineered and built for us.

Despite the impossibility that gravity could come into existence with electromagnetism and balance itself by a natural process precisely the first time, proponents of a naturally produced universe insist that this balance was accidental.

An intelligent Being is required to achieve such a feat of power and control. These events happened suddenly, precisely, and accurately for the first time in -430 Plank Time. There is no natural process or blind luck that could precisely balance gravity and electromagnetism so fast, so precisely, and necessary for the universe to continue its expansion.

There was a mind that knew when and where these precise events had to happen, and they were engineered to take place when they did.

If we follow the precise setting of all 209 of these essential physical constants, we find that every single one happened with precision and at the exact moment they were required.

In simpler terms, if you are going to build a house for yourself, you must know before you begin what events must take place and exactly when they must happen. Could a house simply begin by itself or by any natural process? Could a tornado gather up building materials, assemble them at the right place and at the right time, and make a building?

The construction of the universe is infinitely more complex than any house. The sequence of events necessary to commence, expand, and complete the universe could never happen by any natural process. They happened because a Being with a mind of unlimited knowledge—with the technological power to accomplish such a construction, exists.

This Being is revealed to us every time we look up into the night sky and see what He has made.

Psalms 19:1-4: “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.”

David wrote the words to this Psalm 3,000 years ago. The existence of the universe is intended as an indictment against those who claim that “there is no evidence for God.” The most vivid and expressive evidence that God must exist is the creation He shows to us every day of our lives. It is utterly preposterous that any intelligent person could imagine this universe, our earth, and human life as the result of chance. There is no evidence anywhere that the universe exists because of random, undirected events.

There are only two possibilities for the existence of the universe:

  1. It caused itself
  2. It was caused

If the universe caused itself, where is the evidence this is true? Before the universe began, there was no matter to build a universe and no space to place it in. There was no time to mark its duration and no physical laws to regulate its expansion or production of human life.

There is no scientific evidence that any other universe existed which produced our universe. Those who insist this is true—base their hypothesis strictly upon mathematical calculations that assert a preexisting universe could exist. The foundation of science is the premise of provable and observable data that allows a conclusion to be made. In the case of the universe—all of the scientific evidence that we have—demonstrates that our universe is the only one that exists, and it came into being suddenly when nothing existed before this singularity.

Fine-Tuned Scientific Evidence

Our fine-tuned universe, precisely set for human life on Earth, proves that the universe was caused. There is no evidence anywhere that the universe caused itself or that any natural process can ever fine-tune anything.

Therefore, the existence of a universe that presents us with the 209 fine-tuned physical constants listed in Appendix A of this book—precisely tuned for life on Earth—proves that a Being with an unlimited mind, power, and engineering capability must have created the universe.[16]

The only Being capable of such a feat of intelligence is the God of the Hebrews, Yahweh.[17] Why is this true? The things that the God of the Bible has been documented as doing during the history of the world are superior to all other gods and religions known to mankind.

The Historical Eyewitness Accounts

In the Koine Greek New Testament, the men who saw and heard Jesus stated repeatedly that Jesus is Yahweh, who created all that exists:

Colossians 1:15-17:  “Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him, God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.”

I have challenged atheists who claim they can impeach the fine-tuned essential constants of the universe as accidental—to provide me with evidence this is true. Not once in nearly 50 years has an atheist or critic provided this evidence.

If you are an atheist and you believe that you can impeach the fine-tuned universe as evidence for the existence of God, place your impeachment at the end of the this essay:

  1. Present the actual scientific evidence that proves that fine-tuning is possible by a natural process.
  2. Present the actual scientific evidence that any natural process could have produced a universe with 209 essential constants—precisely set to allow Human life on Earth.
  3. Please do not present the opinions of another atheist, whether a New Testament scholar, scientist, or from an atheist website. Present evidence, not opinions or theoretical mathematical equations that cannot be proven; present actual evidence. The fine-tuned universe is testable, provable, scientific evidence; impeach it with the same.

[1.] “The Fermi paradox is the discrepancy between the lack of conclusive evidence of advanced extraterrestrial life and the apparently high likelihood of its existence. As a 2015 article put it, “If life is so easy, someone from somewhere must have come calling by now.”

Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi’s name is associated with the paradox because of a casual conversation in the summer of 1950 with fellow physicists Edward Teller, Herbert York, and Emil Konopinski. While walking to lunch, the men discussed recent UFO reports and the possibility of faster-than-light travel. The conversation moved on to other topics, until during lunch Fermi blurted out, “But where is everybody?” (although the exact quote is uncertain).

There have been many attempts to resolve the Fermi paradox, such as suggesting that intelligent extraterrestrial beings are extremely rare, that the lifetime of such civilizations is short, or that they exist but (for various reasons) humans see no evidence.” Wikipedia Statement on the Fermi Paradox.

[10.] The more we learn about our universe the more we realize just how unique and special it is. The former idea of the multiverse and unlimited numbers of other universes, as the reason for our universe, is rapidly losing scientific support. First and foremost, we cannot scientifically validate that any other universes actually exist because we cannot see beyond our own universe. There are many theories for how other universes could exist, in the form of mathematical calculations, but none of these have any scientific proof:

  • Infinite Universe
  • Bubble Universes
  • Parallel Universes
  • Daughter Universes
  • Mathematical Universes

Not one of these other universe theories can be proven by any scientific evidence. They all exist in the theoretical as conjecture and speculation.

Ours is the only universe that we are sure that exists. The more we learn about our universe, the greater the confidence is that ours is the only one. The unique processes which were necessary in order to cause our universe and allow it to develop specifically to support human life on earth, makes it highly unlikely that any other universe could have achieved the same results by a random processes. If we are to believe that an infinite number of other universes exist and one of these has caused our own, then all that we have accomplished by this theory is to make the process infinitely more complex. We must also need an explanation for how all of these other universes began in the first place and were able to produce at least one with the capacity to support human life. The greater the number of universes, the greater the need for an explanation as to how this is was possible. The only conclusion supported by science today is that ours is the only universe in existence and before it began, there was nothing.

[11.] These events of the initial universe happened so quickly that scientists needed a new unit of measurement to be able to understand all of these events happening so fast. This new unit or measurement for how quickly the initial universe expanded, is called Plank Time.

[12.] To give you an idea how short Plank Time is, there are more units of Planck Time in one second, than all of the seconds since the universe began, nearly 14 billion years ago.

There are nearly 31 million seconds in a year. It has been nearly 14 billion years since the universe began. Multiply 31 million 556 thousand, 926, by 14 billion, and you get a time scale that is so small that all human intuition evaporates.

If you look at your watch and measure one second, ask yourself how many Planck Times is that? It is a billion, billion, billion, billion, billion, Plank Times.

When the universe is just a few Plank Times old, an exploding mass of energy is expanding faster than the speed of light. In just a few more Plank Times, the entire universe was determined.
