The Prophetic Significance Of Haman’s Attempt At Exterminating The Jews, and Modern Iran In Their Attempt At Exterminating The Jews
One of the first things you learn as a new believer in Jesus is the fact that nothing that takes place of any significance in this world is a coincidence. The God of the Bible makes clear claims that He alone orchestrates, conducts, and executes His will in all world affairs.
If you have read the book of Esther, you quickly learn that the point of this record is that God acted in sovereignty to protect the Jews when satan, working through Haman, sought to destroy the Jews. Why is satan so persistent in seeking the destruction of the Israeli people? They are the people of the promise after Abraham, from whom God would bring the Messiah, Jesus.
Throughout history, satan has tried to destroy the Jews. We saw this with Haman, Hitler, the regime of Iran, and even during the time when Jesus was born. Herod dispatched troops, orchestrated by satan, to kill Jesus as an infant. The plan failed, as all plans satan tries to carry out to destroy the sovereignty of God.
The Lesson of The War With Iran In Parallel With The Prophecies of the Last Days
There is no doubt that the beginning of the war with Iran (Persia), in proximity to Purim, the time when Haman of the Persians, the historical Iranians, tried to exterminate all Jews, is a signal to students of Bible Prophecy, that this is the time in history when the finality of God’s plan of salvation is coming to a pinnacle.
Purim’s Meaning and Timing
Purim commemorates the Jewish people’s deliverance from annihilation in the Persian Empire during the reign of King Ahasuerus (often identified with Xerxes I) when the vizier Haman plotted to destroy the Jews. According to the biblical account, the Jews were saved through the courage and wisdom of Queen Esther and the change of heart of King Ahasuerus. The Jewish holiday occurs on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar, which this year corresponded to early March 2026.
In Jewish practice, the Fast of Esther is observed on the 13th of Adar (March 2, 2026) — immediately preceding Purim — recalling the fast Esther and the Jews undertook before approaching the king.
Modern Military Actions Against Iran
Over the weekend preceding or coinciding with Purim 2026, the United States and Israel launched coordinated airstrikes and military operations against the Islamic Republic of Iran, significantly escalating tensions in the Middle East. This included attacks on key military and governmental infrastructure in Tehran and other Iranian cities, and reportedly the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as part of a broader fighting campaign.
These events are not isolated from the time when the same nation tried to destroy the Jews when Persia had that opportunity. People who see these two events converging as mere coincidence don’t understand the God of the Bible, who stated that He alone controls the events of human history, not happenstance
The Lord Controlled the Great King of Persia, Cyrus, and His Actions:
Isaiah 45:13 “I will raise up Cyrus to fulfill my righteous purpose, and I will guide his actions.”
In Daniel 7, The Prophecy of the Kings of Three World Empires Are Controlled by the God of the Bible
Daniel 7:9-15 “I watched as thrones were put in place and the Ancient of Days sat down to judge. His clothing was as white as snow, his hair like purest wool. He sat on a fiery throne with wheels of blazing fire, and a river of fire was pouring out, flowing from his presence. Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him. Then the court began its session, and the books were opened.”
“I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race, nation, and language would obey him. His rule is eternal—it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.”
The “Ancient of Days,” the one who wears clothing as white as snow, is the same description of Jesus that we find in the Book of Revelation:
Revelation 1:14-15 “His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves.”
Daniel records that no kingdom, no world leader, no event of human history makes a major move like the United States/Israeli attack on Iran (Persia). Just as the God of the Bible acted to stop the execution of the Jews by Persia 700 years before Jesus arrived, He is doing the same today, as He orchestrates the Prophetic events that will happen in the last of the Last Days.
Daniel 2:20-21 (Daniel says) “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings.
This is the clearest, direct statement in Daniel that God sovereignly installs and removes rulers. The context is critical: the dream concerns successive world empires (Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and the final kingdom). Daniel’s interpretation is that political history itself unfolds under divine sovereignty.
The phrase is written in Aramaic:
מְהַעְדֵּה מַלְכִין וּמְקִים מַלְכִין
mehaʿdē malkīn ûmeqîm malkīn
“He removes kings and sets up kings.”
This is not merely about individuals; in Daniel 2, the kings represent world empires.
In Nebuchadnezzar’s second dream (the great tree), the decree from heaven explains why God humbles the king:
Daniel 4:17 “So that everyone may know that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world. He gives them to anyone he chooses— even to the lowliest of people.”
Daniel records precisely what God told Him, that God governs human kingdoms. He gives dominion to whomever He chooses. He can abase the proud ruler.
This theme is repeated in Daniel 4:25 and 4:32.
Daniel 4:34-35 “I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal. All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him, ‘What do you mean by doing these things?’”
Daniel 1: God “gave” Judah into Nebuchadnezzar’s hand (1:2).
Daniel 2: God reveals the rise and fall of empires in the statue vision.
Daniel 4: God removes Nebuchadnezzar’s sanity and restores it.
Daniel 5: God ends Belshazzar’s reign in a single night.
Daniel 7: Four beasts (kingdoms) rise from the sea — but dominion is ultimately transferred by divine authority to the “Son of Man.”
Daniel is not merely asserting political cycles; he is presenting a prophetic fact of history: nations rise and fall because God appoints their time, authority, and termination.
For these reasons, we must conclude that the start of the US/Israeli war against ancient Persia, which tried once to destroy the Jew, is finding a prophetic end. When the proxies of Iran attacked Jews on October 7, 2023.
On that day, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas (a proxy of Iran) launched a coordinated assault from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. The attack included thousands of rockets fired into Israeli territory. Armed militants are breaching the border fence. Mass killings in Israeli communities and at a music festival. The kidnapping of over 200 hostages
The attack resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths in Israel (primarily civilians) and triggered the subsequent Israel–Hamas war that escalated throughout late 2023 and beyond.
October 7, 2023, is now widely regarded in Israel as the most deadly single day for Jews since the Holocaust, and it fundamentally reshaped Israeli military policy, regional diplomacy, and Middle East security dynamics. This was orchestrated by ancient Persia, the same nation that tried to exterminate the Jews during the reign of King Ahasuerus, around 483–473 BC, placing the decree roughly in the mid–5th century BC.
According to the Book of Esther, Haman cast lots to determine the day for the destruction of the Jews:
Esther 3:7: “In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur (that is, the lot) before Haman… to determine the day and the month, until it fell on the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.”
We are currently at the precipice of the finality of all events concerning Israel, the Jews, the return of their Messiah, Jesus, and the arrival of the Kingdom that God promised David. Get ready, now is the time to repent of your sins and trust fully in Jesus as your Savior.

If we can say the current actions are fulfilling Jeremiah 49:34-39 (The Prophecy of Elam) in that God is removing the Prince of Persia then the Purim mirror is perfect. What better way to remove the Prince of Persia than on Purim.
Excellent article.
