Do you remember that first day, when you realized who I am and invited Me into your life? Do you recall the excitement and anticipation you felt when I came to live in your heart? I want you to live in this newness of life every day until I come for you.
Many people begin well, and start with great zeal to know who I am and live for Me. After a short time, when trouble or difficulties come along, they begin to fall away. Trials have a way of separating the wheat from the chaff. Difficulties have a way of bringing you to a place of determination. You must decide if I really am Lord of your life.
I know about these things because I had this same decision to make at the Garden of Gethsemane. On the night I was betrayed, I saw the suffering ahead. I asked My Father if He would take away the cup of judgement I was about to drink from. He told Me that My death was the only way you could be saved. I determined to place all of My confidence in My Father and do what He asked.
I am asking you to make this same decision today. Will you trust Me, no matter what comes along, and fully commit yourself to Me?
We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. ~Hebrews 6:11-12 (NIV)
Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”
He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” ~Matthew 26:36-39 (NLT)
Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. “For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. Those who are just will live by faith. God has no pleasure in anyone who turns away.” But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved. ~Hebrews 10:36-39 (RCR)
Jesus, when everything is going well, and I am happy and satisfied, it’s easy to trust You. It is in those moments, when my world is falling down around me, that I find my mind and heart are confused.
I suppose it has something to do with my confusion over why You would let me suffer. I always thought that, when I trusted in You as my Savior, my life would go smoother.
I realize now that the way of suffering is the path to growth. It is by sorrow and loss that I realize how much I need You. Help me today to fully commit myself to You, Lord, and keep my eyes on You and not my problems.
I know that in the end, when my life is over, I will have a reward waiting for me that will make all of these trials worthwhile. Give me wisdom to draw near You when I am afraid and unsure of the future. Help me to run to You in difficulties and not fall away. Remind me to open Your word today and every day, so that You can speak to me and guide all my steps.
