Culture Of Death, God Of Life

On February 5, 2018, Erica Gomez, 17 and pregnant, decided that she would give herself an abortion just after her newborn baby came into this world. stabbing her baby repeatedly until dead, she wrapped the infant in a bathrobe and placed the dead child on the shelf of her neighbors shed.[1]

After all, the current law in the United States allows a woman to abort her baby who is fully viable while it is still in the womb, why not moments after.

In the afternoon of February 14, 2018, 19 year old Nikolas Cruz decided that he would take his revenge on a world that had hurt him and made him feel like an outcast. Entering Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, with an Ar-15, 17 young people were gunned down in the prime of their life.[2]

In 1963, Atheist, Madalyn Murray O’Hair, won her case banning Bible reading in school, in Engel v. Vitale. Since that time, God has been removed from every public place, resulting in each successive generation losing their consciousness of God and growing progressively more violent.

Today, we see the results of a nation who has forgotten God and the culture of death it has created.

Jesus said that He came to give us life, and life more abundantly. His presence on earth was the fulfillment of God’s promise to send us His own Son and show us precisely what God is like. One day, Phillip asked Jesus to show him the Father. He wanted to know what God was like. Jesus told Phillip, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father” (John 14:8-9). We know that God does exist today because He came to the world in the person of God’s Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus’ message was one of life, hope, and love. He came to give us the opportunity to have all our sins removed and live a life free of guilt and the fear of death. Jesus brought hope to the world by His promise of something far greater than this world offers. He promised eternal life to every person who is willing to turn from their sins and believe upon Him as their Savior.

The world has lost its consciousness of God today and this is the reason that we see so much violence and generation after generation who have no appreciation for the value of life.

Paul wrote in his letter to the Roman Christians that in the last days, people would drastically change as they moved farther and farther away from God. The stunning details that Paul wrote concerning these days are a mirror image of what we see today in our world.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.  ~Romans 1:28-32

One of these attributes that are described in Romans 1, is the loss of natural affection. This is the innate feelings of love and compassion that a mother has for her children that we are born with, a gift from God. When a nation removes God from the consciousness of its people, this natural affection begins to fade until the value of life is meaningless. Erica Gomez grew up in a nation where the life of a baby was insignificant enough that we allow a mother to murder their children while still in the womb.

Life has been so cheapened by the culture we now live in that young men like Nikolas Cruz see no reason that he should not kill in order to satisfy his need for vengeance. Video games repeatedly show our young people that human beings are nothing more than targets in a game. Learning that maximum carnage and body counts are the way to win a game, we are teaching our youth that life is not precious, it is meaningless.

Actor and Comedian, Robin Williams achieved what every person hopes to accomplish in their life; fame, fortune, public acclaim and freedom to live any way you choose. All of this was not enough as the day arrived and the emptiness and despair of life confronted Robin with its reality. He chose to end his life rather than face another day of hopelessness.

Jesus said: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” ~Matthew 16:26

Only if our nation and people return to God and cultivate a new culture of life in our youth, will a new generation of young people arise who understand how precious life really is. If we continue to exclude God from our schools, government, and personal lives, our nation will end just as every other nation before us has, who also forgot God.

Nations and peoples do not find travesty and hopelessness by continuing in a living relationship with God. Only those who exclude Him from their lives and live without
God’s love, find emptiness, hopelessness, and see life as meaningless.

Today, Jesus offers the world life, hope and a love that fully satisfies the longing of the human heart. We are empty and in despair because our souls cry out for God. We were made by Him and for Him and until we find Him, we will never have peace or happiness in our life.

Those of us who know Jesus, must also do our part to change this current culture of death, to one of life and hope. We must get back to Bible reading in our personal lives and with our children. We must begin again to pray daily for our nation and people. We need to share Jesus with young people and those we meet during our day. In every generation where young people find a personal relationship with God by Jesus Christ, they grown into happy, productive, compassionate adults who enhance our nation.

I know this is true because in 1975, as a lost and hopeless teen myself, I wondered into a church in Southern California and heard the message of Jesus love. It changed my life and 43 years later I am still filled with hope and the love God instilled in me so long ago.

Pray with me for our nation that we will be able to return to God and end this culture of death and give our young people a hope that never fades. We have the power to bring the world the love it longs for. All that must happen is for us to open our hearts and mouths and tell people about the hope that is in Jesus Christ.
