It is the idea of most people in the United States that we have a government by the people and for the people. This is true, but there is far more at work which permits the government and our country to exist than simply our will. We live in a universe create by God that has a planet which He made for us to live upon. Everything that takes place in God’s creation is guided and directed by Him and all is for Him and because of Him.
If we think that we can force our will upon God or cause His plans to fail by our fervent efforts to oppose Him, we are fools. There are several instances in world history where great men believed that they were responsible for their ascension to power and that the greatness of their kingdoms were due to their wisdom or power.
One of the greatest and most powerful kingdoms that has ever existed in human history was the Babylonians, under king Nebuchadnezzar. Through Daniel the prophet, God foretold the kingdom of Babylon in chapter 2 of Daniel and those who would exist afterwards.
Incredibly, this entire period of The Times of the Gentiles was seen by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, in a dream that had deeply troubled him. As Daniel is found able to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, he is brought before the king.
Daniel Gives Nebuchadnezzar The Interpretation:
In Daniel 2:29-35, God shows Nebuchadnezzar an image that illustrates the four Gentile kingdoms of the world that would be present during the Times of the Gentiles.
Chapter 2 of Daniel reveals these four Gentile kingdoms, from a human point of view, as a great statue. Chapter 7 describes the same four Gentile kingdoms, from God’s point of view, as four vicious beasts.
“The Times of the Gentiles” (4 Kingdoms) begin with the head of Gold, which is Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom. This kingdom is followed by Cyrus of the Persians, followed by Alexander the Great of the Greeks, and finally the Roman Caesars who were in power during the time when Jesus was here on earth.
Jesus said that Israel would be taken captive by all the nations and be trampled by the Gentiles until the Times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ~Luke 21:24
The Times of the Gentiles end, when verse 34 of Daniel Chapter 2 comes to pass: Jesus, as the Stone cut without hands (not by human will), strikes the image on its feet of iron and clay and breaks it to pieces.
You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. ~Daniel 2:34-35
Daniel looks into the distant future of the last days to see what will take place. During the seven-year Tribulation period, there will be a fourth kingdom that will consist of many nations from the former Roman Empire. A world leader called “the beast” will unite the world under one kingdom that receives its power from ten of the nations, that were once a part of the former Roman empire.
During the time of this fourth kingdom—again, made up of the Iron, the old Roman empire that will be revived in the last days—Jesus will return to the earth with His church, as described in the Book of Revelation Chapter 19. As the Stone described by Daniel, Jesus will strike the kingdom of the beast and destroy it. He will then set up His own kingdom that was promised to David’s descendant, the Messiah.
Incredibly, Daniel saw the kingdoms of Babylon, the Persian, Greeks and Romans, and described them in vivid details. All of these events are confirmed by the historical recored. The Bible is the only book in existence which has accurately predicted the major kingdoms of the world.
These prophetic accuracies distinguishes the Bible as superior to all other religious or secular books.
When Leaders Need To Be Humbled
During the height of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar believed that the greatness of his kingdom was by his own hand. The king walked out on to the terrace that overlooked his kingdom and proclaimed: “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?” This is described in Daniel 4:29-32.
In response to Nebuchadnezzar’s declaration, God removed him as the king of Babylon and drove him out into the wilderness where he lived like a wild beast for seven years. God told the king that he would remain this way “until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”
At the end of seven years, Nebuchadnezzar confessed that God was sovereign over all nations and leaders and that He alone determines who leads these governments. Nebuchadnezzar made this confession and he was restored.
The Rise Of Cyrus
Cyrus, of the Persians, came after Nebuchadnezzar and he was told by Daniel the prophet that God had spoken of Cyrus, 150 years before he was born and called him “My Shepherd.” Through Isaiah the prophet, Daniel read the prophecy of God to Cyrus, who was so impressed with God’s power that he did precisely what God had said.
Imagine Cyrus’ amazement and sober contemplation as he enters Babylon and meets Daniel, now an old man. Daniel opens the Hebrew scriptures and shows Cyrus the prophecy of Isaiah 45. This great king realized that, almost 150 years before his birth, he had been named and ordained by the God of the Israelites to become a mighty conquering king and perform a task for the one true God whom he neither knew nor worshiped.
“Thus says the Lord to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held—to subdue nations before him and loose the armor of kings, to open before him the double doors, so that the gates will not be shut: “I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel. ~Isaiah 45:1-3
Stunning Predictions Of God, Fulfilled By History:
When Cyrus came to Babylon, unknown to him at that time, he already had the promise of the God of Israel that he would subdue and conquer Babylon. This was despite the fact that no other nation, in past history, had been able to overcome the incredible fortress of Babylon’s walls and water barrier surrounding the city. In Isaiah’s prophecy, Cyrus is not only told that he is the Lord’s shepherd (Isaiah 44:24), but he is also informed precisely how he will overcome Babylon and enter the city. Cyrus will learn of this prophecy written by Isaiah from Daniel, who is within the city of Babylon he is about to capture. It is believed that, as a result of Daniel revealing these prophecies of Isaiah 45 to King Cyrus, this resulted in the king doing exactly as the prophecy describes—to allow the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their Temple.
“Thus says the LORD to His anointed, To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held—To subdue nations before him And loose the armor of kings, To open before him the double doors, So that the gates will not be shut: ~Isaiah 45:1
The following excerpts are from the archeological discovery of the “Cylinder of Cyrus,” which describe the ease at which Cyrus’ army entered the city of Babylon. This also substantiates Isaiah’s prophecy and the events in the Book of Daniel:
“His widespread troops-their number, like that of the water of a river, which could not be counted, strolled along, their weapons packed away. Without any battle, he made him enter his city Babylon, sparing Babylon any damage. He delivered into my hands Nabonidus, the king who did not worship him.”
Cyrus was easily able to enter Babylon and overtake the city without any battle whatsoever. The Book of Daniel tells us that on the night Cyrus made his way into Babylon, Belshazzar—the king of Babylon—was having a great feast in the palace.
Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand. ~Daniel 5:1
That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain ~Daniel 5:30.
In Volume 1 Of The “History Of Herodotus”, This Greek Historian Describes The Invasion Of Babylon By Cyrus:
“On the top, along the edges of the wall, they constructed buildings of a single chamber facing one to another, leaving between them room for a four-horse chariot to turn. In the circuit of the wall are a hundred gates, all of brass, with bronze lintels and side-posts. …The city is divided into two portions by the river, which runs through the midst of it. This river is the Euphrates, a broad, deep, swift stream, which rises in Armenia, and empties itself into the Erythraean Sea.”
“At the rivers end of these cross streets are low gates in the fence that skirts the stream, which are, like the great gates in the outer wall, all of brass, and open towards the water. . .Cyrus on his way to Babylon came to the banks of the Gyndes, a stream which, rising in the Matienian mountains, runs through the country of the Dardanians, and empties itself into the river Tigris. The Tigris, after receiving the Gyndes, flows on by the city of Opis, and discharges its waters into the Erythraean sea.”
Babylon was a city that straddled the mighty Euphrates River. The walls of Babylon were 87 feet thick and 300 feet high. There were 250 guard towers around the perimeter of the city, stationed 24 hours a day with armed guards. The Euphrates River ran under the city and acted as a natural deterrent against attack.
The city of Babylon was considered impossible to defeat because of the awesome structure of the city. At the entrance to the city gate of Babylon were large double-hung iron gates that went down deep into Euphrates River.
Herodotus further describes how the Persians diverted the River Euphrates upstream into a canal, so that the water level dropped “to the height of the middle of a man’s thigh,” which lowered the water level to the point where the soldiers could go underneath the iron bars by night. Two days later, on October 12, 539 B.C., Cyrus’ general Ugbaru and his troops were able to enter Babylon without a battle.
Cyrus was able to conquer Babylon, precisely as God had predicted and told him in advance of this victory, from Isaiah 45:1.
In this, God demonstrated His power and sovereignty once again, over every kingdom, nation, and leader.
Cyrus’ Command To Rebuild The Temple Is Confirmed By Ezra In 2 Chronicles:
October 12, 539 B.C., Babylon fell to King Cyrus of the Persians. He defeated Nabonidus and his son Belshazzar, who were the last rulers of Babylon. The Book of 2 Chronicles, recorded by Ezra, contains the declaration of this great Persian king in his own words. This is corroborated in the “Cyrus Cylinder,” housed in the British Museum, London, England.
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, 23 Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth the LORD God of heaven has given me. And He has commanded me to build Him a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah. Who is among you of all His people? May the LORD his God be with him, and let him go up! ~2 Chronicles 36:22-23
God had created Cyrus with such a heart, that he had great respect and compassion for the people whom he conquered. Growing up in very humble beginnings, raised by a poor shepherd, the Lord no doubt formed the heart of Cyrus as a young boy. He prepared Cyrus to be His servant so that, in later years when he reads the prophecies written by Isaiah, the heart of Cyrus would be moved to respond in doing precisely what the Lord had predicted. Cyrus’ words and actions are confirmed twice here in the writings of Ezra, in 2 Chronicles 36 and the Book of Ezra that bears his name.
Cyrus’ Command Confirmed By Ezra:
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth the LORD God of heaven has given me. And He has commanded me to build Him a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah. 3 Who is among you of all His people? May his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel (He is God), which is in Jerusalem: And whoever is left in any place where he dwells, let the men of his place help him with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, besides the freewill offerings for the house of God which is in Jerusalem. ~Ezra 1:1-4
Cyrus Issues The Command:
Daniel Chapter 9, verse 25 speaks of a “command” being given to “restore and rebuild Jerusalem.” These decrees by Cyrus, in 2 Chronicles 36:22-23 and Ezra 1:1-4, both speak of Cyrus’ instructions in building “a house for God,” the Temple at Jerusalem. Cyrus does not speak of “restoring or rebuilding Jerusalem.” This prophecy comes from the mouth of Daniel and is directed at a future king, Artaxerxes, who will make this very command in 445 B.C.
“Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. ~Daniel 9:25
For this reason, both commands of Cyrus seem to apply to the first “seven weeks” or 49 years that we know, from history, is the specific amount of time it actually took to return and rebuild the Temple at Jerusalem. The second period, sixty-two weeks of years or 434 years, plus the 49 years to rebuild the Temple, or a total of 483 years, is the object of Daniel’s complete meaning and fulfillment for his prophecy in chapter 9:25—sixty-nine weeks of years.
According to Haggai 2:18-19, on December 17, 520 B.C., the foundation to the Temple was laid. The original command came by Cyrus 17 years before, in 536 B.C. Although the words of a Persian king were considered the words of a living god and could not be ignored or changed once he spoke them, it took 17 years before the foundation of the Temple was actually laid in Jerusalem. This is because God had determined that the Temple could not begin until the 70 years of the “Desolations of Israel” were concluded (see the chart above). The “Desolations” began in 589 B.C. and, 70 years later, ended on December 17, 520 B.C. (See the charts above for a graphic illustration of this point.)
“Consider now from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month (December*), from the day that the foundation of the LORD’S temple was laid—consider it: 19 Is the seed still in the barn? As yet the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day I will bless you.” ~Haggai 2:18
Cyrus ordered the rebuilding of the tempe of Jerusalem and accomplished every word of prophecy that God had spoken. These are matters of fulfilled history.
The Founding Of America, A Sovereign Act Of God
The framers of the Declaration of Independence stated that our rights, which would be a part of the new nation that they were founding, came to all men, by their “Creator.”
Further stating, these rights are “self-evident.” These men believed that the God of the Bible exists, and that He is the source of all creation. They believed that the entitlement of liberty and freedom from government oppression and tyranny, were rights bestowed to the citizens of America—by God. They declared that this fact is self-evident, meaning that God’s existence and His intention to make men free is clear, obvious, and manifested by the existence of the universe itself. It was because they believed in the God of the Bible, that they took the laws of America from the laws of nature and nature’s God.
It really could not be any clearer than has already been stated in the most famous of all American founding documents; The Declaration of Independence.
The Founding Fathers were primarily Christian men, who believed in God and were seeking to found a nation that could enjoy the freedoms that God intended for all people. For this reason, the laws which make up the Constitution, came from the basic principles of God’s law, as found in the Bible. If we examine the laws that God has declared for mankind, we see that the laws of the United States, closely parallel what God has ordained for all people.
There are thousands of other documents from the founding father’s that further define the purpose for our nation’s original purpose. The opening words of the Declaration of Independence is the most familiar language that many people have seen for themselves. If we just read the text of this document and let their words define for themselves; the purpose for this declaration, it is clear that the United States of America was founded upon Christian principles, with its laws coming from the Bible, the laws of God.
“I do not believe that the Constitution was the offspring of inspiration, but I am as satisfied that it is as much the work of a Divine Providence as any of the miracles recorded in the Old and New Testament.” ~Benjamin Rush, Signer of the Declaration of Independence.
“In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity.” ~John Quincy Adams, Signer of the Declaration of Independence
The United States was founded upon the belief that God has called us as a nation, and that our liberty was given to us from God. If we remove our conviction that God is the source of our nation, and begin to act in ways that are contrary to His laws, we will experience His wrath.
[C]an the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis: a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? – that they are not to be violated but with His wrath? ~Thomas Jefferson
“To the kindly influence of Christianity we owe that degree of civil freedom and political and social happiness which mankind now enjoys. All efforts made to destroy the foundations of our Holy Religion ultimately tend to the subversion also of our political freedom and happiness. In proportion as the genuine effects of Christianity are diminished in any nation… in the same proportion will the people of that nation recede from the blessings of genuine freedom… Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican forms of government – and all the blessings which flow from them – must fall with them.” ~Jedidiah Morse
“If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” ~Ronald Reagan
The Bible is clear that no nation exists apart from the sovereignty of God and no people may remain free unless they believe—in and honor God.
…The Most High rules in the kingdom of men, Gives it to whomever He will, And sets over it the lowest of men.’ ~Daniel 4:17
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. ~Romans 13:1
When Israel abandoned God, over the process of 490 years, they slowly saw the effects of their abandonment in their nation. The enemies of Israel began to attack their cities. The financial prosperity of the nation declined. Lawlessness increased and people began to do what was right in their own eyes, rather than what God said was right.
As a result, the nation began to decline and eventually God removed His total protection of the nation; resulting in Israel and Judah being taken captive by their enemies.
In 605 B.C., the Babylonians defeated the Egyptians during the Battle of Carchemish. This military conquest ended the domination of Palestine by Neco, Pharaoh of Egypt. This event was controlled by the Lord as a part of His sovereign power over the governments of men.
Judah, in her abandonment of God, was ready for judgement. Through the prophet Jeremiah, we see that God had prepared king Nebuchadnezzar as His instrument—to exact judgment against His people.
And afterward,” says the LORD, “I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence and the sword and the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life; and he shall strike them with the edge of the sword. He shall not spare them, or have pity or mercy.” ’ ~Jeremiah 21:7
When God calls a nation into existence, He also controls whether or not they remain in existence. Just as Israel abandoned God and eventually lost their nation, so also will the United States lose its right to exist if she abandons God.
The Events Of Brett Kavanaugh And God’s Sovereignty
When we see the massive opposition of those who stand against the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, the obstacles often seem insurmountable. During the time when Judge kavanaugh was being considered as an Associate Justice for the Supreme Court, the Lord began to show me that He had chosen this man as the Champion God’s people have prayed for during the past four decades.
For many years leading up to the Liberal Supreme court which brought abortion on demand, the rise of homosexual rights, and the massive increase in lawlessness to our nation, Christians were silent. There was little prayer for our nation and leaders, and while we were asleep, evil overtook our land.
For the past forty years many Christians have been fervently praying that God would return us to a state of righteousness. This would only be possible if God would give us a traditional Constitutional Supreme Court.
This day arrived on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Judge Brett Kavanaugh is about to be confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice in about two hours. This victory marks a new period of American history when God will once again cause the hearts of people to return to Him. It is my feeling that the rise of the Jesus People from the 60’s and 70’s, is about to happen in the United States once again.
There are many who believe that there will be a great spiritual revival in the world before the coming of the Lord. It is certain that the United States is in dire need of a spiritual awakening. We pray that the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh is the beginning of our national spiritual revival.
We will have to wait and see what takes place in the coming years, but one thing is certain; God has shown the people of the United States that He determines who is appointed to positions of power in American Government and in our court system. It is the Lord who has controlled the outcome which brought Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Understanding these things, we must expect that God will work by further incredible events to bring many people to Jesus, before the Lord returns for His church in the near future. I wait with all of you who love Jesus, to see the great things the Lord is about to do.
All of us who love Jesus should be in constant prayer at this time, and in the coming months and years. It is the nature of God that any spiritual awakening that will take place, will be as a direct result of God’s people praying. It is not by might, nor by power, but by God’s Spirit that our nation will return to the Lord.
