If God Can Create A Universe, He Can Do Anything: Examining The Difficulties People Have With God And The Bible

There are many people who say they cannot believe in the God of the Bible because the things described in the Bible, are impossible

Let us consider this premise. The Bible begins with the words: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” This is the first line of the first chapter, of the first book, in the Bible. The scientific evidence we have today for the universe, proves that the universe is not eternal; it came into existence at a finite moment, and began to expand into everything that now exists. This is exactly what the opening sentence of the Bible states.

The universe began with the most brobdingnagian miracle ever to occur. If we can can believe this first line of the Bible, it is not hard to believe everything else in the Bible:

The God revealed by the Bible is described as eternal, infinite in knowledge, power, ability, and love. God can do anything, and if He can speak a universe into existence, certainly all the other things we read in the Bible are also possible for God.

“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” ~Psalms 33:6

If you study the scientific facts for how the universe began and expanded to produce the 300 sextillion stars that exist, it quickly becomes evident that no natural process could accomplish this immense task.

In order to achieve our universe, all of the required events and processes that would enable our universe to produce a planet like earth, could never happen by random events, or happenstance. Every process at the beginning of the universe was precisely controlled to exact a specific outcome; human life on earth.

Extreme intelligence and engineering ability were required to commence and build the universe we now live in. A person would have to know the outcome of every process they place into motion, before the event begins. If it was not known what the precise ratio between gravity and electromagnetism must be at -430 Planck time, when the universe began, our universe could not have expanded into the stars and planets that now exist.

This knowledge requires intelligence, and intelligence requires a Being

Only an eternal, unlimited Being is capable of producing our universe. There is no natural process that knows an outcome before it begins. This is evidence that an evolutionary process did not produce our universe. Random processes require extensive durations of time—the universe began instantly, and proceeded with specific events, carefully calibrated to ensure the correct expansion of matter.

The universe is so impossible by a natural process that atheist cosmologist and theoretical physicists have created an unprovable mathematical model that says that our universe came from an already existing universe, or an unlimited number of preexisting universes. The problem is that this theory exists only as a theoretical mathematical hypothesis that has never been proven. Why? We can’t see beyond our present universe to observe whether any other universes actually exist.

All of the scientific evidence we do have today, proves that our universe is the only one that does exist.

In order to support advance life on earth, the laws of physics must operate with great precision. The law of gravity is so finely balanced that it is able to hold planets in their orbit, but not so powerful that we cannot walk on earth. In contrast to gravity the laws that regulate the atom, produce forces that are incredibly strong. Change the ratio of the proton to the electron in the atom just 1 part in 10^40 and every atom in the universe self destructs. How did these laws which regulate the forces that make the universe possible, know how to precisely set themselves where they must be? This becomes an insurmountable obstacle to a naturalistic cause for the universe.

In order to believe that the universe exists by a natural process, we must explain how gravity could come into existence during the first zeptosecond of time and balance itself precisely with electromagnetism—with a tolerance of less than 10^40? How could these unthinking, unknowing elements guide themselves so that they were set at a tolerance so small that any change, greater or lesser than 10^40, would cause the immediate destruction of the universe?

If the universe evolved over billions of years, why does the evidence prove that gravity and electromagnetism were set precisely the first time—exactly when the universe began? The only way that this would be possible is if an intelligence knew ahead of time what this precise setting should be, and that gravity was essential to this process. It would also be necessary to know in advance what the outcome of changing this exact balance would produce. If these quantities were not known in advance, it would be impossible to guess and achieve success on the first attempt, as is the case with our universe. On the first try, gravity and electromagnetism were precisely balanced.

Despite the chance that the universe could not possibly know where gravity and electromagnetism had to be set, this balance was precisely fixed in less than a trillionth of a billionth of a second.

A Thinking Being Is Required

A Being would be required who knew ahead of time, when gravity and electromagnetism must begin, and what the balance between these two must be in order to permit the expansion of the universe so that it would produce first and second generation stars.

The sun that resides in our solar system which makes advanced life on earth a reality, was only possible because we have a second generation star. Only a second generation star contains carbon, from which all human beings are made. When God created man on earth, He made us from the elements of earth. Carbon does not exist on an planet that has a first generation star.

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” ~Genesis 2:7

The word, “dust, was translated from the Hebrew, עָפָר ‘âp̱âr, the elements of earth, the soil. Within the soil of earth are all of the elements that are within every human being:

“The human body is approximately 99% comprised of just six elements: Oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, calcium, and phosphorus. Another five elements make up about 0.85% of the remaining mass: sulfur, potassium, sodium, chlorine, and magnesium. All of these 11 elements are essential elements.”[1]

In order to achieve a second generation star, a first generation star must burn through its entire supply of fuel. This takes billions of years to burn through the hydrogen, helium that exists in a star. When all this fuel has been expended, the first generation star explodes into a supernova. The energy produced by this first generation star produces a metal-rich second generation star that also contains carbon. The planets that come from these second generation star, may have all of the elements we find on earth, including carbon, which God used to created human beings.

No natural process has an intelligence connected with these processes that knows what the balance of gravity and electromagnetism must be; what components must be present to create human beings, what the chain of events are, to achieve human life.

All of this requires intelligence and a guided process that will produce the 209 constants required for our universe.

All of the other gods described by history, never claim to create the universe. Only the God of the Bible makes this brazen claim, and states that He alone created all that exists. In the New Testament there are numerous citations that name Jesus as the source of all that exists.[2]

The Eternal Being that knew what must be done, ahead of time, before He commenced our universe. set into motion all of these processes. No natural or evolutionary process could ever achieve these precise events. The fact that the universe exists as it does, with known quantities of fine-tuned constants, proves that it did not come into existence by accident or an evolutionary process by natural means.

We know today by modern science that our universe is not an accident. It exists by guided and fine-tuned constants that allowed it to begin and continue to exist.

The God who created this immense and complex universe is capable of all the events found in the Bible that critics say are impossible.

We don’t have to know how God did everything that is described in the Bible; we only have to believe that He could achieve these things, by the evidence of this universe we can see. We can have confidence that the God described by the Bible could cause every one of the events found in the Bible.

The world exists today as the product of man’s fall from the perfection God intended and created the world to experience. All of the suffering, evil, sickness, and death that we find in the world, is the product of sin and man’s rebellion against the perfection God commanded.

Jesus came to redeem this broken world, and bring all those who believe God, back to the perfect world He wants all of us to have. It’s up to us whether we will live in this perfect world. If we believe God and place our trust in Jesus, the one God sent to save us, we will never die and never see the suffering and death of this earth again.
