Another Bite Of The Apple

Modern technology, the internet, global and instantaneous distribution of information and communication, has made life wonderful. Or has it?

When Daniel was given the key to all of the events concerning the last days and the specific time when the Messiah would arrive the first time, the angel Gabriel told him that in the last days, “many shall travel all over the world, and knowledge shall increase.”[1]

It is also in the advent of the internet and instantaneous information sharing, that evil has drastically increased all over the earth. With this increase of information, people are also distributing communication that is hostile towards God and those who love Him. Information about how to disregard the word of God and continue in personal sins without fear of future judgment, has also dramatically increased.

What was once perverse, and hidden from human society, is now out in the open and many are no longer ashamed or repentant.

The global increase in information and communication through the internet is possible because of cell phones, tablets, and computers that are used by billions of people all over the world. I spent several years in the Philippines working to help build homes for the poor and sharing the Gospel of Christ. During that time I was amazed by the reality that even in a third world country, nearly everyone had a cellphone.

The Days of Noah

When Jesus was asked by His disciples what the signs of His return to earth would be, He said that the hearts of people all over the earth will be like they were during the days of Noah.

But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. ~Matthew 24:37-39 (NKJV)

Genesis 6 gives us the details of what the hearts and minds of people were like in those final days, just before the flood arrived and everyone on earth perished, except Noah and his family.

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. ~Genesis 6:5 (NKJV)

Most of us are familiar with the Apple logo. An apple with just one bite. The first time I saw this many years ago, the first thing I thought of was the Garden of Eden, and just one bite of the Apple that caused the entire ruin of human life. I wonder if the most popular Smartphone in the world, and the instant availability of information across the earth from these Apple Smartphones, is a harbinger of things to come?

It was a desire for information, specifically, information and the experience of evil, that caused the fall of man at the beginning. Will it be the desire for information, and the spread of evil all over the world through the internet, by use of our smartphones, that will bring the return of Jesus?

The current events taking place on earth, certainly indicates that this is true. It’s time to prepare our hearts and minds for the return of Jesus, for as knowledge has increased, so also has evil and its permeation across the earth.

Many people are not aware that the Apple one, Apple’s first computer, was offered for sale in July of 1976. Just two hundred computers were sold during the first ten months this product became available. The selling price: $666.66

In 1983, John Sculley was the president of the Pepsi Cola Company. He was appointed as CEO of Apple on April 8, 1983. In his comments regarding the Apple logo, Mr. Sculley said:

One of the deep mystery to me is our logo, the symbol of lust and knowledge bitten in to, all crossed with the colors of rainbow in the wrong order. And you couldn’t dream of more appropriate logo pointing lust, knowledge, hope and anarchy.”

Created with the idea of permeating lust and knowledge, illustrated by the apple of the Garden, perverting the colors of the rainbow that represented the promise of God, pointing to anarchy. That pretty much sums up what the condition of the world is today, by way of our smartphones, and the internet.

How far off can the return of Jesus be? I am 64 years old, and I have not seen such rebellion and lawlessness during my life, as we all see today. When I first learned who Jesus was in 1975, I was a long haired Rock drummer for a touring band. The “Jesus people movement” was just getting started. My generation was tired of the hypocrisy of the older generation, and their pretentious words and actions. We were searching for something more, and we found it in Jesus.

The only hope for the world today is that this generation will also recognize the pretentious words of people in government, Hollywood, celebrities, and the influencers, who draw away millions into evil by their deception.

In conclusion, this essay is not about discarding our electronic devices, but about being aware of the global influence our communication has, in either spreading evil, or a knowledge of Jesus. A smartphone is just a tool that can be used for both evil and good. The premise of this essay is that because the smartphone has been used to spread evil, the environment of our modern society has moved us to the precipice of Jesus’ return. As Gabriel told Daniel, in the last days knowledge will increase. Unfortunately, this knowledge has not been to bring righteousness and a knowledge of Jesus and the word of God to our world, but to further the evil agenda of this world and cause people to miss the eternal life that God offers.

  1. Great article Rob, everything that you said about the changes that are happening has been taking place ever so slowly and without any fan fare. There is no doubt the devil knows just how to present it so as not to cause any alarm. Now he is ramping up his plan and Christ is moving toward his return for us. I am so thankful for your articles and books that you have worked tirelessly to make available. I pray for a speedy return of our Lord so we can be with him for eternity. Bless you Rob.
